FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where can I see the Domesday Book? The Domesday Book will be on display in the David P J Ross Magna Carta Vault at Lincoln Castle. How long will the Domesday Book be on display? The Domesday Book will be on display at Lincoln Castle from 27th May – 3rd September 2017. What pages of the Domesday Book will be displayed? Domesday will be displayed open at the first pages for Lincolnshire. There is no plan to turn pages during the time it is with us. Do I need a ticket to see the Domesday Book? Yes. The following Lincoln Castle ticket options will give you access to the David P J Ross Magna Carta Vault: - All Inclusive (10% discount if booked online) - Prison and Magna Carta (can not be used on an event day) - Castle and Cathedral Joint Please note that a separate ticket will be required to view the Battles and Dynasties exhibition at The Collection. You can purchase this from the Lincoln Castle website or from the shop/ticket points on site. these times where possible and leave plenty of time for your visit. Some queuing will be outside so please ensure you dress for the weather. In the interests of the visitor’s experience we will also be encouraging a one way system inside the prison building. Visitors will access the Magna Carta Vault first and move on to the Victorian Prison from there, followed by the exit from the building. We recognise that not everyone will wish to access the Magna Carta Vault and we will accommodate access to the Victorian Prison first for those visitors, when possible. We recommend that pushchairs are not brought into the Magna Carta Vault and Victorian Prison. Please note that we have a secure buggy park located next to our East Gate entrance. On event days, please listen out for our p.a. announcements which will advise the best times to view the Domesday Book. Is the Domesday Book accessible to view for wheelchair users? The Magna Carta Vault and the Victorian Prison are fully accessible. We are limited on the number of wheelchairs we can accommodate at any one time, but our Visitor Experience Team will be on hand to facilitate access where possible. Please note that the document room has very low light levels. This is a conservation requirement for the documents on display. If you do intend to bring a group, we advise that you avoid peak times (weekends and school holidays). The minimum number of visitors per group to become eligible for the 10% group discount on the normal ticket prices is 15. Group bookings must be booked a minimum of 14 days prior to the date of visit. We are a school, can we book to see the Domesday Book? We will also aim to have some bespoke postcards of the Domesday Book at Lincoln Castle. Can I view the Domesday Book outside of the usual opening hours? Am I allowed to take photos of the Domesday Book? What else is there to do at Lincoln Castle? Unfortunately due to conservation requirements we cannot allow photographs to be taken of any of the historic documents on display in the David PJ Ross Manga Carta Vault. Lincoln Castle itself offers three attractions – the Medieval Wall Walk, Victorian Prison and Magna Carta. The Castle is open 7 days a week during the display of the Domesday Book, from 10am until 5pm. We anticipate that we will be busy for the duration of time that the Domesday Book is on display at Lincoln Castle. Our busiest times are likely to be between 12pm and 2pm, at weekends and during the school holidays.
