review their child’s report card and sign and return the envelope no later than Tuesday, January
17th.
RES FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT: Join Ridgeview families for
movie night this Friday, January 13th at 6:00pm in the
Commons. The feature presentation will be Home, rated
PG. Popcorn will be provided courtesy of Carmike Cinemas
Grand Prairie. Children are welcome to wear their pajamas
and all are encouraged to bring blankets and pillows. All
students must come with a supervising adult to ensure that
all those in attendance can enjoy the movie.
RES SPELLING BEE: The 2017 4th and 5th Grade Spelling Bee will be held in the Commons
on Tuesday, January 24th beginning at 1:00pm.
RES IS LONGING FOR LEGOS: Ridgeview would like to create a Lego library which has many
possibilities of usage. Depending on donations, a large Lego board could be created for use
during indoor recess; as well as a mobile math and writing station for use in classrooms. Please
send in random Lego pieces along with base plates (large flat Lego boards) to help in making
new creative outlets for students. If you do not have legos but would still like to help, please feel
free to donate an Amazon gift card which will be used to purchase lego base plates and lego
bricks. Please write ‘RES Legos’ on the gift card before sending it to school with your child. If
you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Eppel at s [email protected].
COLD WEATHER GEAR: As the temperatures begin to change, please be reminded to label
your children’s jackets, coats, hats, gloves, etc. with their name. In addition, as stated in the
elementary handbook since recess usually will be held outdoors, students must dress
appropriately for these play periods. As a rule, all children are expected to participate in recess
when the temperature is 15 degrees or above (this includes wind chill temperatures).
INCLEMENT WEATHER/DELAYED SCHEDULE OPTION: The Dunlap Administration may
choose to implement a two-hour delay to the start of the school day in the case of inclement
weather (snow, ice, extreme cold, etc.). It’s not anticipated that a delayed start will occur often,
but it does provide an additional option to ensure a productive school environment, while
maintaining safe conditions for all staff, students, and parents. This decision will be announced
no later than 6:30 a.m. on the day of the delayed start via School Messenger system as well as
local TV stations. On these days, buses will run and morning pick up times will be two hours
later than normal. Classes will begin two hours later than their regularly scheduled time. There
will be no morning Early Childhood or Bright Futures classes, but the afternoon classes will run
at the normal time. School will still dismiss at the regular time. Please visit
http://www.dunlapcusd.net/District/Pages/SchoolClosingPolicy.aspx for
further information regarding our weather related procedures.
LOST AND FOUND OVERLOAD: The lost and found area is
overflowing with items that have been found in the building. Please
take a few moments to stop by the Ridgeview foyer and search
through the contents of our lost and found treasures.

from the news blog. This blog will provide health and wellness information for parents and

Club fundraiser - Pack the Place! We thank all of you for our great turnout last year and for
participating in promoting our district spirit! This year Pack the Place will be held on Friday,
January 27th. Our theme will be USA. The game is Dunlap vs Pekin. We will be selling shirts
and promoting the event with cheerleaders and basketball players traveling to the schools. As
you know this is our sole fundraiser and a big part of the DHS community spirit.
LUNCH INFORMATION: Lunch and recess times can be found on the RES website under the
‘Parents’ tab. A lunch menu can be accessed through the food service tab at the top of our

milk is available for $0.45. Bottled water can be purchased for $0.60. Families wishing to apply

STUDENT ILLNESSES AND ABSENCES: If your child will need to leave school early due to
an appointment or any other reason, please notify both the teacher and the office. Advanced
notification will allow the teacher time to prepare for your child’s departure from the class. If
your child will not be in attendance due to illness or any other reason, please email your child’s
teacher as well as the office. If the office has not received notification of your child’s absence, a
call will be placed to parents/guardians to confirm the absence. Any unconfirmed absence will
remain unexcused. For more health information, please read the Dunlap District Nurse
Newsletter on the Ridgeview webpage under the parent tab.
FROM THE NURSE’S OFFICE: A parent/guardian may excuse a student from physical
education for up to two days. Any long term physical education excuse must be requested in
writing from the student’s health care provider, specifying the length of time your child is to be
exempted. A written note from the health care provider should be submitted for the student to
resume full activities. Any child who is exempt from physical education for medical reasons will
not be allowed to participate in outdoor recess activities. Re-injury on the playground could
occur, resulting in prolonging the child’s healing and recovery period. Arrangements for indoor
recess in the main office or a supervised classroom will be made. Any child who is exempt from
physical education for medical reasons will not be permitted to participate in school sponsored
sports.
