Year 4 History
DIARY DATES/REMINDERS
The Newsletter of Gordonstoun Junior School
This term, Year 4 has been busy creating
some fantastic displays in their classroom. The
sunflower heads show the smiling faces of
each member of the class, with the green
leaves containing milestones in their lives. The
’flower pots’ at the bottom of the picture
contain an excellent piece of work from each
child. A super effort!

1900: Boarders Return to School
In recognition of Anti-Bullying Week, the Year 8s have been creating their own poems to
raise awareness of this important and highly emotive subject. Some of the children shared
their poems with the rest of the school in Assembly, and gave us all something to think
about.

I Am Nobody by Isabel, Year 8
I am a nobody
My heart beats one, twice, three times.
Then stops once again
Every day is like I’m living in a nightmare
Am I dreaming?
Is this real?
Why am I the victim?
What did I ever do to you?
I ask this when they come
Trying to be cool, I look them up and down.
They snigger
I walk back three steps so they walk forward four.
They are in my face now
Poking, jabbing, punching.
But not with their hands
With words.
The words that sting,
The words that burn
I wipe my eyes
I don’t want to be seen
I don’t want to draw attention to myself any more
I am a nobody
And nobody cares.

The Return of the Conkers
Sunday 27 November 2016
The annual conker clash is well underway, with competitors battling
through the early rounds on their way to winning the coveted trophy.
Well done to everyone who has taken part so far, and we look
forward to celebrating the eventual conqueror of the conkers.
Four things to return after the weekend...
 This weekend, children will bring home a Rag Bag which can be filled with old
clothing, shoes, bags, belts and linens. Every scrap counts, as the money raised goes
towards Green Group initiatives.
 Please could you remind your children to bring in a shoebox for the Blythswood Care
shoebox appeal (as detailed in last week’s Unicorn).
 Christmas cards are being designed by children up to Year 6. If you would like to order
packs of your child’s card, please return their form after the weekend.
 Skiing letters are being emailed to parents. Please return the completed forms, whether
your child wishes to ski or not, to [email protected] by Friday 25 November.
