Scheme of Work – Year 8 Course – Zoom Español 1 – 0 – ‘Me presento’ Autumn 1 – 7 weeks – 10/12 lessons Learning outcomes: All pupils will be able to recognise and recall the basic vocabulary for introductions, such as greetings, name, age, classroom vocab, birthday and family. They will begin to show an awareness of the fact that verbs in Spanish change, depending on the subject, and will apply this in basic forms in speaking and writing. They will start to apply pronunciation rules to unknown words with support. Most pupils will be able to have a short conversation in speaking and writing about themselves, demonstrating as they do so an increasing awareness of sound patterns. They will begin to use simple connectives to increase the complexity of their speaking and writing. Some pupils will demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and consistency in their pronunciation and spelling.They will also use a variety of connectives to increase the complexity of their writing and speaking work. Assessment: This Module will not be summatively assessed as it is the first module of the course. However, formative assessment should be taking place every lesson through vocabulary tests, speaking in class and marking of books which should provide assessment data and idea of individual progress. Course – Zoom Español 1 – 1A – ‘Me describo’ Autumn 2 - 7 weeks – 10/12 lessons Learning outcomes: - - All pupils will be able to use adjectives more or less accurately to describe their pets and themselves. They will understand that Spanish grammar is based on 3 verb groups and that endings change depending on the subject and group. They will be able to apply this rule with support to familiar verbs. They will recall names of main countries, nationalities and languages. They will be able to use some high frequency verbs to describe which country they live in, which language they speak and which they learn. Most pupils will be able to do all of the above and will develop a deeper understanding of the verb ending rule. They will be able to manipulate language from the previous unit. Some pupils will be able to the same as above with greater confidence and less support. Assessment: An extended piece of writing will be completed at the end of this unit to include content and structures from both units covered. Regular formative assessment will be taking place throughout the unit. Course – Zoom Español 1 – 1B – ‘El insti’ Spring 1 - 7 weeks – 10/12 lessons Learning outcomes: - - All pupils will be able to express and justify basic opinions about school subjects and uniform using a range of reasons. They will have a better understanding of the adjective agreement rule and will be able to apply it to their written and spoken work with support. They will use the time to describe their school timetable. They will be increasingly aware of how to build longer sentences using a variety of HF verbs. They will feel more confident with producing some LV4 work. They will consolidate the notions of infinitive and conjugated. Most pupils will be able to will be able to do all of the above with less support. They will become increasingly independent when building sentences using a wider range of opinions, reasons, time references and connectives. - Some pupils will be able will be able to do all of the above with very little support & will start manipulating the language with increasing confidence in order to achieve a secure level 4. Assessment: This unit will be summatively assessed after xmas in all 4 skills. Sub-levels will be recorded on on Go4Schools and shared with pupils. SMART targets should also be set. Course – Zoom Español 1 – 2A – ‘Mi semana’ Spring 2/ Summer 1 - 11 weeks – 13 lessons Learning outcomes: - - All pupils will be able to describe their free time activities using a variety of opinions, verbs, connectives and time references. They will develop their understanding of infinitive and conjugated and their knowledge of stem changing verbs. They will practise building longer and more complex sentences using weather phrases and conjunctions. They will describe their daily routine and revise the time doing so. Most pupils will be able to all of the above with a greater level of accuracy and confidence. They will be able to develop their ideas further by manipulating the language more or less accurately with some support. Some pupils will be able to do all of the above much more independently and they will be able to manipulate and use familiar language from previous units in the new context. Assessment: This unit will be summatively assessed after Easter in all 4 skills. Sub-levels will be recorded on Go4Schools and shared with pupils. SMART targets should also be set and recorded on ‘the progress tracker sheet’. Course – Zoom Español 1 – 3A – ‘Me gusta comer’ Summer 2- 6 weeks – 9 lessons Learning outcomes: - - - All pupils will be able to describe and talk about what they eat at different mealtimes using times. They will be able to use a variety of food and drinks items and will understand which article to use. They will be able to express opinions about what they eat and drink explaining whether it is healthy and using a range of reason to do so. They will also use the comparative to extend their range of language. They will recall vocabulary and language structures necessary to deal with restaurant situations. Most pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater accuracy and confidence. They will manipulate connectives from previous units in order to extend their sentences. They will draw comparisons with verbs they have already met and spot patterns they will be able to use again. Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with far less support and more accurately. They will show an acute awareness of the language and its structures and will use this knowledge to develop ideas. Assessment: This Module will not be summatively assessed. However, formative assessment should be taking place every lesson through vocabulary tests, speaking in class and marking of books which should provide assessment data and idea of individual progress. Scheme of Work – Year 9 Course – Zoom Español 1 – 2B – ‘Donde yo vivo’ Autumn 1 – 7 weeks – 10 lessons Learning outcomes: - All pupils will be able to describe where they live using ESTAR or SER appropriately. They will be able to say what there is and is not in their area and where and how often they go there using adverbs of frequency. They will be able to give and understand simple directions. They will describe their house using a range of rooms, floors, articles and adjectives. They will be able to use a variety of new nouns to describe their bedrooms. - Most pupils will be able to do all of the above using a wider variety of adjectives and connectives to build longer and more complex sentences with some support. - Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater confidence, less support and better accuracy. They will also use vocabulary and sentence structures learnt in previous units to enhance their writing and speaking. Assessment: This Module will not be summatively assessed. However, formative assessment should be taking place every lesson through vocabulary tests, speaking in class and marking of books which should provide assessment data and idea of individual progress. There will also be a levelled extended writing to be completed before October Half-Term. Course – Zoom Español 1 – 3B – ‘Las vacaciones’ Autumn 2 – 7 weeks – 10 lessons Learning outcomes: - All pupils will be able to describe where they are going to go on holiday using the immediate future with ‘I’. They will be able to describe their journey using means of transports and where they are staying using types of accommodations. They will be able to compare types of transports and accommodations using a new structure. They will be able to book a room with some support. - Most pupils will be able to do all of the above using a wider variety of adjectives and connectives to build longer and more complex sentences with some support. They will develop a wider understanding of the immediate future. - Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater confidence, less support and better accuracy. They will also use vocabulary and sentence structures learnt in previous units to enhance their writing and speaking. Assessment: This unit will be summativaly assessed in all 4 skills and translations and the levels will be reported on Go4schools. This will be done after xmas. Course – Zoom Español 1 – 4A – ‘¿ Lo pasaste bien?’ Spring 1/ 2 – 6 weeks – 9 lessons (+ 3 for assessment) Learning outcomes: - All pupils will be able to describe ‘Poder’ to describe what can/ cannot be done in their region. They will be able to justify their answers by using ‘porque’ to introduce specific reasons. They will be able to use the past tense to talk about the weather, describe where they went on holiday using ‘IR’ and use high frequency verbs to describe what they did. They will develop their receptive skills and will be able to understand the gist in L5 pieces. They will be able to use language to buy souvenirs. - Most pupils will be able to do all of the above using a wider variety of adjectives and connectives to build longer and more complex sentences with some support. They will develop a wider understanding of the past tense and will be able to recall and use some irregular past tense verbs. - Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater confidence, less support and better accuracy. They will also use vocabulary and sentence structures learnt in previous units to enhance their writing and speaking. Assessment: This unit will be summatively assessed in all 4 skills and translations and the levels will be reported on Go4schools. This will be done after February half-term. Course – Zoom Español 1 – 4B – ‘La vida tecno’ Spring 2/ Summer 1 – 3 weeks – 5 lessons Learning outcomes: - All pupils will be able to describe what ‘media-based’ activities they do and give opinions and reasons about each one. They will express opinions more confidently. They will be able to write a review and talk about a film or book they like and use a range of opinions. - Most pupils will be able to do all of the above using a wider variety of frequency adverbs and connectives to build longer and more complex sentences with some support. They will develop a wider understanding of how to use opinions with different subjects. - Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater confidence, less support and better accuracy. They will also use vocabulary and sentence structures learnt in previous units to enhance their writing and speaking. Assessment: This Module will not be summatively assessed. However, formative assessment should be taking place every lesson through vocabulary tests, speaking in class and marking of books which should provide assessment data and idea of individual progress. Course – Zoom Español 2 – ‘Hospedarse en España’ Summer 1 – 3 weeks – 5 lessons Learning outcomes: - All pupils will be able to describe their routine using ‘soler’ and a consolidated present tense. They will describe what they do to help at home using a range of verbs and phrases and the present continuous. They will revise large numbers and use them to understand recipes. - Most pupils will be able to do all of the above using a wider variety of frequency adverbs and connectives to build longer and more complex sentences with some support. They will consolidate and be more confident with the present tense. - Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater confidence, less support and better accuracy. They will also use vocabulary and sentence structures learnt in previous units to enhance their writing and speaking. Assessment: This Module will not be summatively assessed. Course – Zoom Español 2 – ‘La moda’ Summer 1/2 – 4 weeks – 6 lessons Learning outcomes: - All pupils will be able to describe clothes and give opinions on them. They will be able to discuss different styles and eras of fashion recognising the imperfect tense. They will use demonstrative adjectives to discuss about clothes sizes. They will improve receptive skills. - Most pupils will be able to do all of the above using a wider variety of frequency adverbs and connectives to build longer and more complex sentences with some support. They will consolidate and be more confident with the present tense. Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater confidence, less support and better accuracy. They will be able to talk about illnesses and injuries using parts of the body. - Most pupils will be able to do all of the above using a wider variety of frequency adverbs and connectives to build longer and more complex sentences with some support. They will consolidate and be more confident with the present tense. - Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater confidence, less support and better accuracy. They will also use vocabulary and sentence structures learnt in previous units to enhance their writing and speaking. Assessment: This Module will not be summatively assessed. Course – Zoom Español 2 – ‘Mi futuro’ Summer 2 – 2 weeks – 3 lessons Learning outcomes: - All pupils will be able to use the future tenses of regular and high frequency irregulars to describe what they will do in the future. They will also describe jobs and say what they would like/ hope to do. - Most pupils will be able to do all of the above using a wider variety of frequency adverbs and connectives to build longer and more complex sentences with some support. They will consolidate and be more confident with the future tenses. - Some pupils will be able to do all of the above with greater confidence, less support and better accuracy.
