Each year, over 80 students turn in
scholarship applications to the Oregon
Trail Community Foundation. I have
served on the Scholarship Committee
at the Foundation, and I’ve witnessed how
scholarships have changed lives for both
traditional and non-traditional students.
Many students realize their parents
can provide some assistance; however, most
agree that the Oregon Trail Community

Our Mission:
The Oregon Trail Community Foundation
is a 501c3 organization that improves the
quality of life in our communities by
offering scholarships and grants through
funds
provided
by
memberships,
donations, bequests, trusts and more.
Foundation can help fill in the gaps. OTCF provides financial relief for
st students when they need it most! In 2015 OTCF awarded $89,450
in scholarships to both traditional and nontraditional students.
One of our nontraditional recipients was a young woman from
Gering who had worked in Lincoln to help support her family while
her husband attended UNL. After graduation they moved back to the
vvvalley and she began attending WNCC with future plans to become
a teacher. As required, she faithfully turned in her grades each seme ester, earned her education degree, began teaching in the Scottsbluff
S School system, and now has her Masters Degree.
I think the Oregon Trail Community Foundation does a really good
j job supporting individuals through our scholarships, and groups through
our grants. What’s important is, that, through our donors who create
scholarships under their family name, or anonymously, OTCF is able
to help students accomplish their goals toward earning their degree
and securing their career. So, that’s why we say, “Don’t just ‘GIVE’
to the future, CREATE it!”

Dear members,
I’m Dr. Tom Rohrick, and I am proud to serve as the new Chairman
of the Board of Directors for the Oregon Trail Community Foundation. I’m
equally proud of this dynamic organization, and what we are able to achieve
in our communities because of our donors’ generosity and our members’
commitment to our mission - to improve the quality, vitality, and safety of life
in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. I look forward to 2016-17 and
the vital work we’ll do together in our communities.
