wokeupinanunfamiliarbedand
room.Shejustknewfromhow
tiredshewasthatshehadnot
beenasleepforlong.“Itwasjusta

fast,excitedmotionsherealized
herhandsandfeetwerechained
tothebedpostscausingapainful
straininallfourlimbs.Thedoor

orthehyena’sdinner.Shewasgoing
tojumprightovertopofthehyena
andshemadeit,butjustbyaninch.
Whenshelandedontheotherside
therewasarockthatshecouldhave
nearlydiedon.Shekeptrunningfor
whatseemedlikeforeverwhenshe
trippedoveralogthatwasonthe
groundandshefellwithaloudcrash.
Whenshewasonthegroundher
visionblurredandsheforgotwhere
shewas,butshecouldfeelthehot
breathofeachlioncomingcloserto
her.Shestartedtoopenhereyes
andsawtenlargefierceeyeslooking
downather.Therewasonesetof
eyesthatlookeddifferentthanall
therest.Thesewerethehyena’s
eyes.Sheknewifshelaythereany
longershewoulddefinitelynotget
away,soshegotonherkneesand
startedtocrawlaway.Asshewas
crawlingabigdesertsnakecame
slitheringinfrontofher.Shehadan
ideathatshewouldthrowthesnake
towardsthelionsandtheycould
feastonthatinsteadofher.When
shepickedupthesnakeitalmostbit
herbutshekeptitfarawayfrom
herself.Thelionsbackedawayfrom
Susanwhenshethrewthesnake
towardsthem.Insteadofeatingthe
snaketheystartedtoruntowards
Susan.Shestartedtorunandthen
stoppedsoshecouldrideonthe
backoftheslowestlion.Shelosther
gripandfelltothegroundforthe
secondtimeandsheblankedout.
Whenshewokeupshewasinher
owncomfybed.Shehadthisdream
everydayfortherestofherlifeuntil
shestartedtostudylionsasajob.
Andeachdayshestudiedalittlebit
ofthedreamwasforgotten.The
moreshewalkedintoherfearthe
lessfearshehad.

doingbootcampoccasionally.
