WELSH PREMIER TIMES 2012-13 Issue 42/Rhif 42 07/05/13 Prestatyn in historic Cup win – Hill-Dunt the hero! A crowd of nearly two thousand saw an exciting final in brilliant sunshine at the Racecourse in Wrexham. Jason Price, the former Swansea City player proved to be the hero with two goals. But the Prestatyn star proved to be goalkeeper Jon Hill-Dunt with a man of the match performance. Not only did he save Dave Morley's penalty he pulled off a brilliant save just before half time to preserve his team’s one nil lead. Jason Price gave Prestatyn the perfect start with a goal after only two minutes. Bangor ended the half strongly but trailed at the interval. Nev Powell' s team grew stronger in the second half and deservedly equalised through Chris Simm. But Prestatyn held on to take the game to extra time with Hill-Dunt again outstanding. There was plenty of drama in extra time, Prestatyn scored twice through Andy Parkinson and Jason Price. Bangor's cause was not helped by the sending off of Michael Johnston for two yellow cards. Neil Gibson and Lee Jones led the celebrations in front of their ecstatic supporters. They can now look forward to Europa League football at Prestatyn next season. Europa League Play-offs Bangor City’s Cup Final defeat means they now participate in one of the the Semi-finals of the Europa League play-offs next Saturday. They will play host to Bala Town who increased their current winning run to eleven matches when they beat Gap Connah’s Quay in the play-off qualifying round on Saturday. The other Semi-final sees Carmarthen Town visit Port Talbot Town for a place in the final on May 18th. The winner will then take the second League European spot. The Reds were officially wound up over an unpaid tax bill last Monday after a season of financial struggle and High Court appearances. Jeffrey and other Llanelli stalwarts are sifting through the wreckage in an attempt to resurrect the club. But the manager claims any revival bid is being hampered by Parekh's refusal to let go. Parekh (pictured right) had four weeks from last Monday's hearing to appeal the decision to wind the club up. And the Reds' major benefactor insists that is what he intends to do. But Parekh has made a string of similar promises this season, often without following through. Jeffrey believes it may now be best for Parekh to give up his fight and let the club plan for a future without him. Proposals for a new team named AFC Llanelli to enter MacWhirter Welsh League division three are already being drawn up. But it is difficult to press ahead until it is clear where things stand with regards to Parekh's appeal. "No-one can do anything until we know whether Nitin is actually going to appeal," said Jeffrey. "We have submitted plans to enter a new club called AFC Llanelli in the Welsh League third division, but if Nitin appeals we can't do anything because the old club still exists. "It seems almost impossible to get hold of him so we don't know what his thoughts are. We just need to know where we stand." Jeffrey (left) held a meeting with club staff this week to see if they are prepared to continue. Coach Gary Lloyd (pictured below right) was among the group that sat down with Jeffrey, along with kit man John England, liaison officer Keith John and Neil Dymock, who looks after the club's administration. Players are also due to hold discussions with Jeffrey, though the former academy director admitted there is little hope of them staying on. "I can't see many of them wanting to step down to Welsh League division three," he said. "At the moment we have nothing, no money, absolutely nothing. "I'm still hoping that if Nitin steps aside there may be some businessman who can come in and help us. "But at the moment we just need people to make the sandwiches and help out. It's as basic as that." It is understood Jeffrey has other offers in the pipeline, but is finding it difficult to turn his back on Llanelli. "I didn't ask for any of this," he added. "I don't want to be a director or a chairman, I just want to coach football, that's all I've ever wanted to do. "I've done my badges and I would probably never have got my chance if things weren't as bad as they were. "The club has been around for more than 100 years so I don't want to just walk away. We have an academy with a load of talented kids and I don't want to see it all go to waste." Bala v Blackburn Rovers in pre-season friendly Bala Town have revealed that they will be hosting a Blackburn Rovers XI on Friday, 2nd August. After the success of hosting FA Trophy winners Wrexham in last pre-season Bala are 'delighted to announce another prestigious friendly against a Blackburn XI who will be visiting Maes Tegid this summer'. The Ewood Park outfit are founder members of the Football League and Premier League and won the Premiership in the 1994/95 season. This alone shows how far our Club has come to attract such prestigious opponents. The Lancashire side boast players such as Morten Gamst Pederson, Paul Robinson, Danny Murphy and goalscoring machine Jordan Rhodes amongst their ranks. Aizlewood can’t wait for play-offs CARMARTHEN Town manager Mark Aizlewood is in bullish mood as he gears up for a Europa League play-off meeting with Prestatyn, writes the Carmarthen Journal. The Old Gold will travel to Bastion Gardens for the knockout match unless the North Wales side spring a shock and overcome Bangor in the Welsh Cup Final. Prestatyn beat Town in the final game of the regular league season last Saturday. But Aizlewood insists he saw nothing to fear in his side's opponents and would relish another meeting between the teams as they chase a European spot. "We will probably end up playing Prestatyn once more," said the Carmarthen boss. "I expect we will have to travel to North Wales again unless there is a surprise result in the Welsh Cup final and Bangor City lose to Prestatyn. It's all up for grabs. "If it is to be Prestatyn once again, and on their own turf, I saw nothing which frightened me about the prospects of a quick return." Carmarthen stayed in Prestatyn on Friday night, but the preparation did not have the desired effect on performance. The Old Gold conceded goals to David Hayes and Anthony Stephens, either side of a Geoff Kellaway reply. That result means they finish bottom of the Championship Conference. "Anthony Stephens, who scored the second goal, will play for the next 20 years and never do that again. I really prefer that he scored a 'wonder goal' now than in the play-offs when it really matters," said Aizlewood. "I have found it very difficult to be critical of my players as they are a very reliable and trustworthy bunch of lads who give their all, week in week out, for me and the club. "I tell the team that people will forgive mistakes so long as you are honest and give value for money. "On that score my players have been absolutely magnificent from day one and I am proud to be their coach. "We will be working tirelessly for the next two weeks to iron out and eradicate faults in the areas which need some improvement. We will be busy preparing, not only for the game itself, but also in talking to the players about next season." Aizlewood added: "What I shall be telling the squad is that, in my opinion, Carmarthen Town look after their players better than any other team in the Welsh Premier League. "Maybe other clubs might offer more substantial pay packages but this club is run by very honourable people whose loyalty to the players is top class." I really enjoyed the occasion at the Racecourse on Monday and the vocal Bangor fans contributed greatly to the whole day. Reading striker Adam Le Fondre obviously watched the S4/C coverage of the match as he tweeted that Jon Hill-Dunt was ‘on fire’ – he wasn’t wrong as all Bangor’s fans will frustratingly acknowledge. So Prestatyn and Airbus UK will be experiencing European football for the first time over the summer months – exciting times at both clubs. Following their defeat in the Cup Final, Bangor’s only remaining hope of securing their annual shot of European football is through the Play-Offs. They are the top seeds – so will play the final at the Book People if they overcome in form Bala in the live S4/C game this coming Saturday.(KO 2pm) Before I say farewell for another week I must send my best wishes to two people who have made significant contributions to our League and cup competitions in recent years. Both chapters came to an end at the Racecourse on Monday as referee Kevin Morgan officiated his final game and John Hartson’s weekly presence on Sgorio also came to an end. Thank you both – and I hope that you will still be involved in Welsh football in the very near future. I’m sure that you will. I must also wish both Cardiff City Ladies FC and Cardiff Met the very best of luck in the Women’s Cup Final at Parc y Scarlets on Tuesday night. Y Gair Olaf gan Gwyn Derfel Llongyfarchiadau mawr i glwb Prestatyn wedi iddyn nhw gipio Cwpan Cymru am y tro cyntaf yn eu hanes ar y Cae Rậs ddydd Llun. ‘Roedd yn achlysur gwerth chweil a dylai’r cefnogwyr o Fangor dderbyn dipyn o glod am eu cyfraniad nhw i’r awyrgylch. Mae’n amlwg i flaenwr Reading Adam Le Fondre fwynhau’r ffeinal ar S4/C gan iddo drydar bod Jon Hill-Dunt ‘ar dận’ yn y gôl i Brestatyn. ‘ Rwy’n siwr bod cefnogwyr Bangor yn cytuno – er mor rhwystredig oedd perfformaid y golwr o’u safbwynt nhw. Felly bydd Prestatyn ac Airbus UK yn chwarae yn Ewrop am y tro cyntaf yn eu hanes dros fisoedd yr haf – cyfnod cyffrous i bawb sy’n ymwneud gyda’r ddau glwb. Wedi eu colled yn Wrecsam – y gemau Ail Gyfle yw gobaith olaf Bangor i sicrhau eu dôs arferol o bêl-droed Ewropeaidd. Nhw yw’r prif ddethlion ac maen nhw’n sicr o gêm gartref yn y Rownd Derfynol os y llwyddan nhw i guro’r Bala yn gêm fyw S4/C y Sadwrn yma. Cyn i mi ffarwelio am wythnos arall hoffwn ddiolch i ddau berson sydd wedi gwneud cyfraniadau gwerthfawr iawn i bêl-droed Cymru yn ystod y blynyddoedd diweddar ac fe ddaeth y ddwy bennod i ben yn y Ffeinal ddydd Llun. Hon oedd gêm olaf Kevin Morgan fel dyfarnwr a darllediad wythnosol olaf John Hartson fel aelod o dîm Sgorio. Dau gyfraniad gwahanol i’w gilydd – ond cyfraniadau sydd wirioneddol yn cael eu gwerthfawrogi. Diolch. Hoffwn hefyd ddymuno’r gorau i Ferched Dinas Caerdydd a Met Caerdydd yn Ffeinal Cwpan y Merched ym Mharc y Scarlets nos Fawrth.
