January 2016 Newsletter - Santa Rosa District Schools, Florida

S.S. Dixon Intermediate School
Mrs. Gooch’s Good News
I hope that each of you had a wonderful Christmas and that your New Year has begun on a positive note.
As we begin the 3rd nine weeks, our teachers will spend some time reviewing the students’ code of conduct,
classroom expectations, and rules. As a reminder, the code of conduct can be found on our school’s website
as well as the district website. Students are expected to be aware of the rules explained in the code of
conduct. Hard copies are available by contacting the school. Please share concerns or areas in which you
believe we could improve. More information about SSDI: https://www.santarosa.k12.fl.us/schools/dis.html.

NEWS FROM P.E.
Welcome back in 2016! We hope that you had a happy holiday season! In January we will start with Field
Hockey Jan 5-14. Following that will be, Flag Football from Jan 19-28. Please encourage your student to
wear closed toed shoes to PE each day to avoid injury to their feet. Running Club will resume on January 8.
There are a lot of jackets and other clothing items in the cafeteria in the lost and found. Students and/or
their parent may look through those so we can get them back to their owners. Mark your calendars for the
Bicycle Safety Unit which will run from February 29-March 16. Students may bring their bikes from home
to ride. Every student will need a helmet to ride. Field Day will be March 17.
Have a wonderful January! Any questions, comments, or concerns should be directed to Coach Malone or
Coach Williams 850-995-3650. [email protected] or [email protected].
PARENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP
Safety is one of our main concerns and we ask that you do not TEXT while you are in line to drop off or pick
up your child. Please help us by having your car display tag hanging when you pull in.
POP TABS
Students may bring in pop tabs and give them to their teacher. Each teacher will have a container in their
room and Mrs. Gavin will collect pop tabs at the end of each month. Each grade level has a container that is
weighed and we announce the winner each month. The pop tabs are donated to the Ronald McDonald House
of NWFL and they use the money to pay their utility bills.
SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL
Our school improvement plan, agenda, and minutes from meetings are posted on our website. The document
is a working document and can be updated during the year. Parents are welcome to send suggestions. Our
next meeting will be held on January 21, 2016.
LITTLE FREE LIBRARY
Our Little Free Library will become a reality on January 18th. Our house/library is built, charter sign has
arrived, and is ready to be installed at Benny Russell Park. Parents and students are encouraged to attend.
Information about the installation time will be sent home with the students. Mrs. Clapper has some books
to put in the library, but students are welcomed to bring in books for us to put in the library OR they can
take them to the park and place them in the library once it is installed. Visit http://littlefreelibrary.org/.
