An outstanding education. WELCOME It is both a privilege and a delight to be introducing our first Whitgift International Music Competition, supported by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as part of our ongoing partnership. Whitgift offers wonderful opportunities for musical development, within a context of all-round educational excellence. This is an exciting, prestigious competition; it has the potential to attract some of the finest young British and international students seeking to demonstrate their talent, MUSIC AT WHITGIFT Music at Whitgift provides an eclectic and enriching environment, in which all young musicians can develop and thrive. The School is fortunate to work with professional tutors and musicians, most prominently the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom we share a close partnership, and with the chance to take advantage of all that is offered by Whitgift, one of Britain’s most outstanding schools. It is a great pleasure to welcome a very special adjudicating panel, with first-class musicians and industry professionals working alongside Whitgift’s Director of Music Development, Rosanna Whitfield, and Director of Orchestral Music, Philip Winter. Distinguished members of the panel include Royal Academy of Music Professor, Remus Azoitei; cellist and former winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year, enabling Whitgift pupils to learn from, and perform with, an exceptionally high level of instrumentalists in concerts throughout the School year. With an impressive number of musical initiatives and cocurricular activities currently on offer to boys, and many exciting projects planned for the future, it is no surprise that we have unprecedented Guy Johnston; novelist and journalist for the Independent newspaper, Jessica Duchen; and a further member, nominated by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. We anticipate the competition attracting a large number of talented musicians, and have attached an exciting and valuable range of prizes, including the exceptional opportunity to have an education funded at Whitgift. Dr Christopher Barnett Headmaster National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain membership, and regular success with junior department entry to the four leading music colleges in London.
