1. Purpose and Characteristics of the Research Promotion Program “For Acquiring Grants-inAid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI)”
The purpose of this program is to promote diverse individual research through applying and getting
“Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research”, which also aims to activate researches as well as to bottomup basic research skills and acquire more competitive funds.

The applicant who got unaccepted result for AY 2017 Grants-in-Aid for Scientific

Eligibility
The applicant (applied as a principal investigator) for AY 2017 Grants-in-Aid for
Scientific Research (KAKENHI) and still eligible to apply for AY2018 Grant-in-Aid
for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) from Ritsumeikan University.
Those who applied for AY 2017 Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI)
from other research institutions are also eligible.
Receiving Multiple If the applicant has more than one unselected AY2017 Grants-in-Aid for Scientific
Funds
Research (KAKENHI) research projects, and is still planning to apply for AY2018
KAKENHI with the same number of research projects as the unselected AY2017
projects, this applicant is eligible to receive financial support for the same number
of projects from AY2017 Research Promotion Program for Acquiring Grants-in-Aid
for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) .
Conditions
Accepted applicants shall apply officially from Ritsumeikan University (as a principal
researcher) for AY2018 Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) *2.
Applicants shall submit a Research Report for Research Promotion Program for
Acquiring Grants in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) for each project when
the research period ends.
*1 If the disclosed result does not include the necessary information, screening will be conducted based
on other items provided such as the average of six evaluation categories.
*2 Applying categories for AY2018 Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) will not be specified.
However, if one applicant received more than two unselected results and apply for this program with

more than two projects, he or she MUST apply for AY2018 Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research
(KAKENHI) with the same number of projects.
3. Screening Procedure
(1) Screening Committee
1) Research Promotion Program Screening Committee will screen based on screening criteria and
announce the acceptance.
2) Screening results will be reported to the Research Committee.
(2) Screening Criteria
Will be screened based on the result of AY2017 Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI).
4. Notes
(1) There will be reduction or unacceptance if screening committee has considered the application has
overlapped with other Ritsumeikan University Research Promotion programs.
(2) The fund will be cut automatically from the next day of additional acceptance of MEXT/JSPS
Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI).
(3) Forms may be returned without screening after the submission, if applicants do not fulfill the
eligibility.
5. Application Forms
(1) Uses of research funds
1) Eligible expenses are related to research and to research results, e.g.: travels (domestic and
international), book materials, equipment, part-time employment, consumable supplies, and
printing/bookbinding.
2) Payments either not mentioned above or unrelated purposes are NOT allowed to expense.
6. Screening Result
Results will be announced to all applicants with written documents early June, 2017. Accepted projects
will be posted on the University website.
7. Documents and Personal Information Management
(1) Applications and other submitted documents will be used for screening purposes only. These
documents will not be returned.
(2) Personal information from submitted documents will not be used other than screening purposes.
8. Application Procedure
Applicants must apply using the prescribed forms. Attach a copy of the screening result for AY2017
Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) printed from the KAKENHI (Grants-in-Aid for Scientific
Research) Electronic Application System.
*If the screening result page cannot be printed, take a screenshot, paste on a document, and print it out.
Application period: June 14(Wed.), 2017 to June 28(Wed.), 2017 (no later than 17:00)
If sent by post, envelope must be postmarked by June 27 (Tue.), 2017.

*Although the application is also acceptable by e-mail, submission will be completed only after receiving
a confirmation e-mail from the Research Office. (If you do not receive a confirmation email, please
contact the following office on each campus.)
