• The Manistee County Road Commission has been tracking winter costs for (4) years.
• Tracking snowfall amounts, type of precipitation and air temperature.
• We have found that not just one product or material is the fix all—it takes several.

Recommendations
In Early Winter / Late Spring:
¾ Use pure salt method with calcium chloride mix to
reduce bounce & scatter
In Colder Winter Temperatures & Steady Snowfall:
¾ Pure salt with beet juice (or 50/50 mix when freezing
rain or ice is present)
Keep In Mind! All Drivers Should Be Trained In:
¾ The specific liquid being used
¾ How the materials work
¾ How fast the materials work in specific conditions
