conferred by clause (b) of section 5 of the Bombay Police Act, 1951
(Born. XXII of 1951) and in supersession of .all the rules made in this
behalf, the Government of Gujarat hereby makes the following rules to
provide for ·regulating the recruitment. to the post of Police Sub-Inspector (Unarmed) Class III, in the Gujarat State Police Service,

namely:-
1.
Short Title.- These rules may be called the Police Sub-
Inspector (Unarmed) Class III, Recruitment Rules, 2008.
2.
Manner of Appointment.- Appointment to the post of Police
Sub-Inspector (Unarmed) Class III, in the Gujarat State Police Service
shall be made either (1)
by promotion of a person of proved merit and efficiency
from amongst the persons who (a) have wor~ed for not less than five years in the cadre
of Assistant Sub-Inspector (Unarmed), Class III, in the Gujarat
State Police Service:
Provided that where the appointing authority is satisfied
that· a person having the experience as specified above is not
available for promotion and that it is necessary in the public
interest to fill up the post by promotion even of a person having
experience for a lesser period; it may, for reasons to be
recorded in writing, promote such person who possesses
experience of
a period of not less t~an two-thirds of the period
specified above;
(b) have passed the departmental examination as
prescribed under rule 165 of the Gujarat Police Manual, 1975
(Part I);
(c) have passed the qualifying examination for computer
knowledge in accordance with the Gujarat Civil Ser-Vices
Computer Competency Training and Examination Rules, 2006;
and
have fulfilled the minimum- requisite standards of

have worked for not less than three years either in the

Service:
(b)
have passed the prescribed~ departmeptal examin_a~Lqn as
prescribed under rule 165 of the Gujarat Police Manual, 1975
(Part I);
(c)
have passed the qualifying examination for computer
knowledge in ·accordance with the Gujarat Civil Setvices
Computer Competency Training and Examination Rules, 2006;
(d)
have fulfilled the minimum requisite standards of physical
fitness, as may be prescribed by Government from time to time
in this behalf; and
(e)
have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate

4.
· Eligibility for Direct Selection.-

to the post mentioned in rule 2,. a
candidate shall,not be less than 21 years of age and not be more than 28
( a)
years of age;
(b) possess a degree obtained from any of the University or an
Institution esta~lished. or incorporated by an Act of the Parliament
or a State Legislature in India or an institution declared to be
deemed as University under section 3 of the University Grants
Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956) or an equivalent qualification
recognised as such by the Government;
(c)
possess the basic knowledge of computer application as
prescribed by the Gujarat Civil Services Classification
and
Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967 as amended from time to time ·
in that behalf;
(d)
possess the minimum requisite ·standards of physique as
specified in Appendix A appended to these rules; and
(e)
. possess adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both
as may be prescribed by. Government from time to time in this
behalf.
Provided that upper · age limit may be relaxed to the
extent of three years in favour of a candidate who is working as
a Constable, Class III or Head Constable, Class III or Assistant
Sub-Inspector (Unarmed), Class III, in the Gujarat State Police
Service:
Provided further that preference may be given to a
candidate who possesses "C" level certificate of National Cadet
Corps:

Probatio(7. - A candidate appointed by direct selection shall be
on probation for a period of one year after successful completion of his
training.
6.
Examination and Training.- (l)The candidate appointed by
promotion or by Special Competitive Examination or by direct selection
shall have to undergo such training . and pass such post-training
examination as may be prescribed by Government from time to time in
that behalf.
(2)A ·candidate appointed !Jy direct selection shall during his probation
be required to pass an examination in accordance with the Gujarat Civil
Services Computer Competency Training and Examination Rules, 2006.
(3) A candidate appointed by direct selection shall be required to pass
an :examination in Gujarati or Hindi or both in accordance with the
rules prescribed by Government in that behalf ..
(4)
A candidate appointed by promotion or by Special Competitive i

. 2. In the Pollee Sub-Inspector (Unarmed) Class III, Recruitment Rules, 2008, in
rule -4, after clause (a), the following proviso shall be inserted, namely:-
" Provided that the upper age limit shall be relaxed for three years as far as it
relates to the ,advertisement given by the Recruiting Authority or Agency during
the period from 12th February,2009 to 15th August ,2009.Thls relaxation in upper
age limit shall be In addition to the· relaxation available under these rules."
