Maverick's is a winter destination for some
of the world's best big wave surfers. Very
few riders become big wave surfers; and of
those, only a select few are willing to risk
the hazardous, sometimes deadly,
conditions at Maverick's. An invitationonly contest is held there most winters,
when the waves come. Mavericks can be
seen highlighted in a movie titled Chasing
Giants- depicting a story of a local surfer
who made a name for himself at Mavericks.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse was built in
1871 to guide ships on the Pacific
coast of California. It is the tallest
lighthouse on the West Coast of the
United States. The lighthouse is
located 45 minutes south on HWY 1.

Mavericks is a surfing location in Northern
California, USA. It is located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) from the shore off
of Pillar Point Harbor. After a strong
winter storm in the northern Pacific
Ocean, waves can routinely crest at over 25
feet (7.6 m) and top out at over 80 feet (24
m). The break is caused by an unusually
shaped underwater rock formation.

HIKING
There are several great local trails that
will lead you up to breathtaking views
and unparalleled scenery. Higgins
Purisima trail is about 15 minutes
south of Half Moon Bay in the
redwood forests. The trail is popular
among outdoor enthusiasts and many
locals. The trail is about 7 miles long
and will take you up to the top of
skyline road.
Another local favorite is Montara
Mountain. Rising almost 2,000 feet
you will find yourself where the sun
often breaks through the clouds. Even
when the sun continues to hide, there’s
still a chance that by the time you hike
to the summit you’ll be hiking above
the clouds.
