On the Cover, clockwise from top, left: The Forest Society and its partners conserved 272 natural-resource-rich acres by purchasing a conservation easement on
the Hazelton farm in Hebron; Conserving the 80-acre Purington farm in Weare will preserve the rural character of the town center and provide public access for
hiking, hunting and fishing. The farm is adjacent to the Forest Society’s Breed Forest and includes frontage along Breed Brook, a tributary of the Piscataquog River
that offers exemplary wildlife habitat; Wise Brook tumbles through the Hazelton Farm in Hebron. The conservation easement on the property protects the water
quality of Newfound Lake as well as prime wildlife habitat; Neighbors and friends in the Millen Lake community of Washington worked with the Forest Society to
raise the money needed to buy 313 acres on Farnsworth Hill and create the Farnsworth Hill Forest, the Forest Society’s newest reservation. Photo by Jed Schwartz;
The vista from the McAllaster dairy farm in Stewartstown is preserved by a conservation easement put in place to help block the Northern Pass high voltage
transmission line project. Photo by Jerry and Marcy Monkman, EcoPhotography.

Though we count donations to the Forest Society in dollars, their impact
is reflected in the acres we protect, the policy goals we achieve, and the
passion for conservation we inspire throughout New Hampshire. The
Trustees and staff thank all supporters for their dedication to our mission,
and we only regret that our space limits our annual listing to those donors
who contributed $250 or more.

2013 ANNUAL REPORT | 19
SUPPORTING THE MISSION
Since 1901, the Forest Society has worked to conserve New Hampshire’s most special lands
and promote their wise stewardship.
What we choose to protect for the future says much about who we are today. Vision is the art
of seeing how the actions we take now will impact the world we live in tomorrow. The Forest
Society envisions a living landscape where managed woodlands, farms, and wildlands are
woven into the fabric of community life. We envision people caring for lands that sustain
dynamic communities with clean water and air, employment, forest and agricultural products,
habitat for native plants and animals, scenic beauty, and recreational opportunities.
Your membership in the Forest Society does more than save forests and fields and streams.
It helps to preserve our unique New Hampshire way of life.
Thank you for supporting the Forest Society. We can’t do it without you.
Above: When the Hamlen family donated a conservation easement on 55 acres of land on the slope of Mt.
Monadnock in Jaffrey, they protected the Monadnock hiking experience by ensuring hikers will continue to
see woodlands from some of the main trails.
