President Ronald W. Miller called the meeting to order at the Ramada Inn, Washington, PA. at 12:05PM. After welcoming Compatriots and guests, Larry Ridgway presents Ron Miller with the past president’s certificate and pin. Whitefield; Cindy & Kurt J. Winter. Secretary Report: Gary Timmons gave a report on the 2014 Wreaths across America campaign. Financial Report: Treasurer Larry Ridgway reported the balance as of February 28, 2015 as $3,709.82 *** http://www.georgewashingtonchapter.com *** Old Business: The minutes from the October & December 2014 meetings were approved. New Business: Ron Miller mentioned that the Chapter was represented in the latest SAR National magazine with a picture from the 2014 Whiskey Rebellion and also junior member Everitt Meer was pictured in an advertisement for the CAR. President Miller installed new Compatriot Michael D. Merryman into the chapter. Past State/Chapter President Joseph M. Shaffer made report on the Nominating Committee. President – Larry L. Ridgway; Vice-President Lindsay S. Morris; Secretary – Gary W. Timmons; Treasurer – Larry L. Ridgway. Nominations were approved and PP Shaffer installed those present. Miller presented Larry L. Ridgway with a Korean War Veterans certificate. Miller brought up the idea of a field trip, of sorts, to the Fort Pitt blockhouse possibly in September. A show of hands seemed to be in favor, and Ron will explore this option. Program: Former Secret Service Agent Patrick Fitch presented an informative talk on the history of the Secret Service as well as his own experiences in joining and serving the Secret Service and the protection of several presidents. He also passed several pictures of himself working on presidential details. on the internet. You may contribute one or more of your patriot ancestor’s bios to this project. The bios may be short or longer (maximum 500 words). Please submit all bios in Microsoft word format and send to Ernie Sutton at [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is May 15th. Welcome Aboard: The George Washington Chapter is honored and delighted to extend the warm hand of friendship to our newest member, Michael D. Merryman. Michael lives in the McKees Rocks area and is the Director of the Robert W. Merryman Memorial Genealogical Library. Michael’s Revolutionary War ancestor is William Mitchell who served as a Drummer in the Second Pennsylvania Regiment. Michael is very much into genealogy and is already working on several supplementals as well as helping another perspective member with his application. We look forward to Michael taking an active role in our George Washington Chapter. Welcome! Patriot Bios: Good of the Order: President Larry Ridgway presented Ronald Miller with a Past President’s pin and certificate and announced that the next meeting will be at Breezy Heights on April 18, 2015 at noon. He will be bringing and discussing the many Revolutionary War era artifacts that are owned by the Historical Society.
