Early Renaissance Art History
Learning Goal:
To appreciate the contribution of Early Renaissance culture, to the west and the world.
To recognise and appreciate the connection between meaning and making
To be aware of how artifacts can help us to recreate a picture of past cultures and artistic practice.
The Big Idea:
We want to be able to demonstrate knowledge of key ideas from the Early Renaissance.
We want to be able to recognize key visual characteristics and qualities of an artwork and connect and place
them in an Early Renaissance social and cultural historical context.
We want to develop time management skills
Success Criteria:

Can demonstrate an understanding of the living conditions for people of the Early Renaissance.
Can demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between Early Renaissance philosophy and beliefs to
their art and culture.
Can demonstrate and appreciate the contribution Greek ideas and values had on the Early Renaissance.
Can define and explain the similarities and differences between Italian and Northern Renaissance.
Can demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for the re-emergence of the scientific method and
empirical observation.
Can define and explain, draw and label the 3 “Hellenistic “orders of architecture
Can identify key visible Early Renaissance characteristics for a given artifact
Can explain and define the purpose and meaning behind a given artifact.
Can describe the materials and methods used by Italian and Northern artists in the art of painting.
Can write in full thoughtful descriptive sentences the meaning, purpose and key characteristics of a given
artifact.
Can memorize and define key concepts, descriptive words and characteristics for a given time period and its art
and culture.
Can continuously work at Art history without interruption.
Can develop skills for the memorization and revision of important facts.
Can meet set deadlines.
