The Reitz Stuff Our 2010 Family Christmas Newsletter Kicks and Giggles from 2010 As Told By BUDDY THE ELF North Pole Media Services LITITZ - Hi! You look great! Are you feeling great? We should sing. Singing is a happy thing to do. Let’s sing. [Sings] I’ll bet you’re just fantastic and happy. And I’m singing a song. A song about Christmas. [Stops Singing] You don’t want to sing? That’s OK. Isn’t Christmas the best? I’m here to tell you all about the Reitz family’s sugar-fueled fantastic year of splendor. They wanted to make sure this year’s newsletter had just the right amount of joy sprinkled with bright colors, candy cane dreams and peppermint rainbows. So they asked me to write it for them this year. I sure hope they can read my Etch-aSketch handwriting! So if you’re ready for a journey more fun than a walk through the Holland Tunnel at rush hour, then let’s begin! SNOWSTORMS - Boy, I sure do love snow, and last Feburary they had two snowstorms that made the North Pole look like a tropical island. You can’t work when it snows like that; you can only build snow forts and go sledding and throw snowballs and make pretty snow angels... well I guess there’s shoveling, so some work is involved. Did I mention that I love snow? GIRL SCOUT COOKIES - Mmmmm. I love cookies, and apparently, so do a lot of people who live near Hannah. She sold over 400 boxes, making her not only the top seller in her Brownie troop, but one of the tops in the whole Council! If you ask me, she’s the World’s Best Cookie Seller. I would’ve bought 400 boxes myself to take a Samoa/Thin Mint bath! Hannah has now stepped up to Junior Girls Scouts. SOCCER - Hannah tried out for the Lititz U-10 girls travel soccer team this spring and made the team. It’s a highly (Top) Hannah on her first day of 4th grade; (Above) Enjoying some popcorn at Teddy Bear Day. (Below) Dylan at the Strasburg Rail Road. competitive league and though they only won one game this season (a 5-0 win at an overnight tournament in Wilkes-Barre in a game that Hannah won the team’s “Hustle Award”), they had some good performances and have something to build on for the spring season. (See Page 2 sidebar for news about her spring soccer season.) PRESCHOOL - Dylan hit some big milestones this year... his “big boy” bed, finishing his first year of preschool and starting his second this fall. He has impressed his teachers with his love and skill with numbers, big and small. I love numbers too! What’s your favorite number? My two favorites are 4,765,454 and 8. OCEAN CITY - I love vacations. Vacations at the beach are fun. I wish sand was made out of sugar, because then I’d See 2010 on Page 2 An awesome show! Tournament Champions Awesome Warriors only T hewonLititz one game during the regular season. But when it mattered most, Hannah’s U-10 soccer team played like champions... and won their Group at the Lancaster Area Girls Soccer Festival in June! They finished the season with a 1-5-1 record. But going toe-to-toe with skilled teams allowed our girls to sharpen their game. On tournament day, they were ready. After losing a 2-1 heartbreaker to St. Anne’s in the first game, the girls regrouped and dominated Hempfield in the second game 1-0, thanks to a fast, strong defense (including Hannah) that allowed very few shots on goal. The girls knew they had a shot at the title, playing another Lititz team they knew well and beat in the regular season. However, they were down 1-0 at halftime. “Coach Rick” rallied the team, and they responded in the second, scoring two goals to win 2-1. They still needed Hempfield to beat St. Anne’s, so they anxiously awaited the results. When the announcer declared St. Anne’s had finished 2nd, their eyes lit up and the cheers began as Hannah’s team suddenly realized that they were tournament champions! Afterward, they celebrated the first place medals by dousing the coach with water. It was an awesome finish to a fun and fantastic season. The Reitzes spent the week before Labor Day at Ocean City, Md., where they like to go every year, and did a whole lot of fun stuff... playing on the beach, going to a water park, rides on the boardwalk, lots and lots of great food, miniature golf. It sounds like the second happiest place ever, after the North Pole. VIOLA - Hannah has started to take viola lessons at school. She really enjoys it and her skills are coming along nicely. Soon maybe she can play a Christmas song and I can sing along with her, even if I don’t know the words. I can pretend. OTHER FABULOUS STUFF - Rick and his Dad and Uncle went to see two Phillies baseball games this year, including one where 47-year-old Jamie Moyer pitched a 2-hit shutout--the oldest person to ever do that. But that’s not old. It’s not. No it’s not. No it’s not. No it’s not. Santa’s a lot older than that. And he can pitch perfect games... For Halloween this year, Hannah and Dylan dressed as a leopard girl and Buzz Lightyear. They were adorable. I want to hug them right now. Can we have a group hug?... They went to fun places this year: Port Discovery in Baltimore (Hannah went twice), Hersheypark, Dutch Wonderland, Dylan went to Strasburg Rail Road, Dutch Wonderland again, Park City Mall where I hear SANTA IS COMING TOMORROW! Oh my gosh. I love parties, and Hannah and Dylan each had one this year for their birthdays. In March, Hannah and her friend Jakey went to Port Discovery for the day, and then had family over for a 9th birthday party. Dylan turned 4 in October and had his first big party with friends at a place called Kidmazium, which has tunnels and rope ladders and ball pits and climby thingies and crazy stuff. I love it! What’s your favorite color? I like green. OK, I’m hyperventilating a little bit so I’d better go sit down with a cookie and hot cocoa now. We all wish you fun tidings this holiday season, a very Merry Christmas, and a superfun 2011! The Reitz Stuff Christmas 2010 Edition Rick Reitz............................
