Company Captain Race Day Information
Johannesburg – The Wanderers Club
Thursday, 26 March 2015, 18h30
Dear Company Captain:
Thank you for taking the time to coordinate your company for the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge®. Please read
through the information below and share it with your runners. Please ensure each of your runners receives all the
runner information described below along with their pre-assigned race numbers.
Runner Information
Please review the following items available on the website, jpmorgan.com/cc:
• Runner Information Memo
• Directions to the Race Site and Parking
• Safety Bulletin
• Series rules
Race Numbers
Refer to the race number labels to ensure that each runner receives the correct number. DO NOT REASSIGN NUMBERS
TO DIFFERENT RUNNERS! Runners who are wearing the wrong number risk disqualification for themselves and their
entire team.
Race Timing
The race will be electronically timed. Each race number contains a transponder (timing device) which is read by an antenna located in a mat on the ground at the start and finish lines. Runners’ times will be recorded beginning when they cross the start mat and ending when they cross the finish mat. It is important that runners wear the race number
pinned in all four corners, unwrinkled, and uncovered, to insure recording an accurate time.
All runners must start the race on time. The start line will be closed 15 minutes after the race starts.
All recorded times will be listed on the jpmorgan.com/cc website. The timing device does not need to be returned.
Recycling bins will be available for race numbers/timing devices.
Race Route
The race route features a dual start near The Wanderers Club and follows city streets to the finish on the Club grounds.
A marker is positioned at each kilometer. The start procedure is described below.
The Start
There will be two start lines:
•
Start for Runners and Joggers – Venus Street. Please follow the voluntary seeding signs which will allow
runners to line up according to their expected running time.
•
Start for Walkers – Wingfield Avenue, close to Greenacres Drive. Wingfield Avenue runs parallel to Venus
Street.
Important
•
Both starts will take place at 18h30.
•
The two fields run/walk individually and merge on the corner of Tyrwhitt Avenue and Melrose Street, close
to the first kilometer mark.
•
At this merging point, runners should be keeping right as best as possible and walkers keeping left.
•
For your convenience, please note the route directions to the starting lines coming from James and Ethel
Gray Park, R.H. Henderson Park as well as The Wanderers Club.
•
Marshals will be in attendance and there will be additional signage to direct runners and walkers to the
correct starting line.
Company Gathering Area
If you reserved a Corporate Hospitality Site or a Demarcated Company Picnic Site for your team, you will be advised
with your assigned location. Race officials will also be available on race night to direct team members to reserved
meeting places only.
Company Captains without a reserved location should designate a team gathering area for their participants. It is the
Captain's responsibility to notify his or team-mates of this location. A banner or sign identifying your company will
make your location easier to spot. Please note, inflatable branding is not allowed, and you are not allowed to stake
anything into the grounds of The Wanderers Club. The public address announcer will not be able to announce company
meeting locations.
Race Day Notes
Check the website, jpmorgan.com/cc, on race day for important messages to runners.
Remind your runners to drink plenty of water before the race. Refreshments will be distributed to all runners in the
Refreshment Area following the race. Additional food and beverage may be purchased from the on-site caterers.
For the safety of everyone in the race, roller skates, roller skis, rollerblades, skateboards, bicycles, strollers, baby
joggers, iPod or other listening devices, and animals are prohibited on the route. Anyone who violates this rule risks disqualification for his/her entire team.
The event is organized in cooperation with the rules of ASA and CGA. Participants should wear a reflective band or
material.
Medical
Medical staff will be available in the Medical Marquee near the finish line as well as on the course. Please instruct your
runners to stop running and seek medical assistance if they do not feel well.
Scoring
Instructions will be emailed to captains when the scoring period opens for submission of scoring teams. Each team will
contain four runners: four men for a male team, four women for a female team, and two men and two women for a
mixed team. An individual runner may score for ONE team and in ONLY ONE division. For example, a female runner
may not be listed on a female team AND a mixed team.
All runners on the teams submitted must be eligible according to the Series Rules.
The top five male and female finishers will be the first five eligible runners of each sex to cross the finish line.
Awards
The Awards Ceremony will be held at 19h30 on the presentation stage located on the lower oval. The following awards
will be presented: First overall man and woman; T-shirt Contest for the top two designs.
Awards for the top five teams in each category will be distributed at a later date, following employment verification of
the team's scoring members.
Race Results
Top finisher results are normally available the day after the race. Official team results are posted later after team
member eligibility is verified.
Championship
The first place team in each category will be eligible to compete in the next J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge
Championship to be held in 2016.
