Greetings Fellow Golfers
Is it just me or does time seem to fly after you turn 21? In this Newsletter, it seems to be a good time to reflect on this past years
events. So here we go. January: A new pair of Bald Eagles were nesting on number 14. Reminder of ‘Handicap’ fees needed to be paid
by December 31. February: A good article presented on ‘How to Become a Golfer’. Well worth reading. You can go to our website at
www.gmgcgolf.com and view in archived Newsletters. March: Another good article on turfgrass as it relates to wear from golf carts,
pull carts and foot traffic. April: Looking for the baby Bald Eagle to start flying. Announcement that we are getting new greens.
GMGC hosting CGA Senior Amateur Qualifier. ‘Shootin’ da Bull IV’ tournament to be held. May: ‘Shootin’ da Bull IV’ won by Jamie
Morgan, Milford Vick, Jeff Moore and Gloria McCullen. Another one to be scheduled for May before we close down the greens. June:
Course closing Jun 13th and reopening week of June 30 on temporary greens. Reciprocal courses listed for play during our closure.
City assuming responsibilities of Pro Shop merchandise and Grill. Reports that baby Bald Eagle is out and stretching its wings. July:
New greens installed! Next day 3 ‚ rain in 1 ½ hours which washed away newly sprigged putting green and severely damaged many
more. Trees being removed from around new greens. Course reopened on temporary greens June 30. August: Hooray!! Course
opened August 18 on our new Champion Bermuda greens. Removed 14 sand bunkers on course and turned them into grass bunkers.
New collection bins being installed on right of #9. Baby eagle is flying. Pro shop rearranged and new flat screen TV over fireplace.
Carolyn is now proprietor of CJ’s grill. September: On our first day of opening on our new greens on his first shot on the first hole he
played, John Hawkins scored a Hole-In-One. Last ‘Shootin’ da Bull’ planned. October: Team of Jamie Morgan, Dean Combs, Jim Alston and Jackie Young won our last ‘Shootin’ da Bull’ for this year. Added Timberlake to our courses for reciprocals. Golf 2.0 initiative
incorporated with ‘Tee it Forward’ and ‘Family Course’ tees installed. November: Club Championship held. Winners are Jamie Morgan, Open; Dean Edmundson, Senior: ‘Bo’ Hughes, Super-Senior; Dan Mooring, Masters and Liz McKenzie, Ladies. 107.9 tournament
planned. December: Trial basis of walking any time approved by ‘Golf Course Committee’ until February 28, 2013. New handicap
‘GHIN’ system being installed (Handicap fees due by December 31). That about wraps it up for 2012. From everyone here, we hope
