Prophets, Ladies, and Friends of Abbas Grotto,
February was a busy month, but very successful given the poor weather. Super Bowl
Party was still great for those that were able to attend.

Hope everyone enjoyed our Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance. We had a great night of
good fellowship. I would like to extend a big thank you to our DJ, Fred Dawson; our
Chefs, Tony Presley and Jim Bainter; and our Bartender, Jack Brecklin. In addition, I
would like to recognize the efforts of our DeMolays for set-up, outstanding service, and
clean up after the event.
February had another good turn out for Fish Fry. Please continue to tell your friends and
family about this monthly event.
March is upon us and on the 15th we will have a Corned Beef & Cabbage meal starting
at 1PM for $7. Please tell all your friends that everyone is welcome to attend.
As a reminder, we have the Spring Convention April 10 and 11th. If you are available to
help, we could use all the hands we can get March 28th beginning at 9AM to assist with
Clean Up in preparation for this important event.
In an effort to continue to improve our Grotto and the membership experience, I am
adding a suggestion box upstairs. In addition, you may contact me at any time by call or
text at 309-264-1404 or email me at [email protected] with your ideas and
suggestions. If you have not attended a Grotto event in several months, what would it
take to bring you back? What is needed
to increase participation and add
new members? Looking forward

Dear Daughters, Prophets, and Friends,
Gee I hope it has been cold enough for everyone. Just try to remember spring is just around the corner.(Just
some blocks are longer than others).
I hope the Valentines party was a success. I 'm sorry I missed it but how could I possible think that a party
would be more fun then a day at the hospital waiting for my dad to have his hip surgery and having it not
happen till the next day.
Dad (Carl Schmitz) is now doing well he is in the rehab facility at Methodist Hospital room 411.
The annual kids Easter party is fast approaching. I hope everyone planning to have their kids or grandkids
attend have put in their reservations. I'm also hoping for great weather for that day.
Also the Grotto will be putting on their corned beef and cabbage meal Sunday the 15th of March. This is a
wonderful meal so please try to make it to support the Grotto and enjoy the fellowship. I really wish I could
make it but sorry to say I work on Sundays.
Ladies don't forget our March stated meeting is the 25th. Maybe by than the
weather will improve along with everyones health. It would sure be nice to see
you all at the meeting. If you are reading this and are not a member of Abbas Caldron
I would love to talk with you about joining.
Don't forget about the Fish Fry on the
3rd Friday every month.

Gate & Front Door Codes Changing (First of March)
Make sure to keep your 2014 dues card with the current gate and front door codes because they will be good until March. Sometime in
March when the gate and door codes will change to the codes listed on the back of the 2015 dues card.
Dues Notices:
Dues notices for 2015 have been sent out. When returning your dues notice please mail back with your check and the form with your
phone number and email address so we can update our records Your email address is very important as this is how the Abbas
newsletter is sent out. The newsletter is also posted on the Abbas Grotto Website at www.abbasgrotto.com
Supreme Humanitarian Foundation Report
The Grottoes of North America Humanitarian Foundation support the United Cerebral Palsy Research Center and the Dental Care for
Children with Special Needs Program. This program provides the best dental care possible for children with Special Needs. Any
person who donates $50.00 to the Humanitarian Foundation receives an Enchanted Lantern lapel pin and certificate., if interested
please contact me.
It was reported by the Grottoes of North America Humanitarian Foundation that Abbas Grotto Prophets made contributions to the
Foundation of $3,050.00. I would thank all of you that support the program.
Abbas Grotto Humanitarian Fund
The Abbas Humanitarian Fund supports local humanitarian efforts over and above what the Supreme can. Last year Abbas donated
$500.00 to the Children’s Home, $500.00 to Madison Ave. Church Food Bank, $500.00 for the East Peoria Theresa Tracy Strive to
Survive Run in the fight against pancreatic cancer, $1,000.00 to Crittenton Center for Children and $1,000.00 the East Peoria Police
Department to help with the purchase of body camera’s for officers.
You can purchase a crutch pin for $50.00 to support the Abbas local efforts anytime, if interested please contact me.
New Prophet Initiation Fee:
Just for information since I seem to get this question often, a new prophet’s initiation fee is $90.00. When a petition is read at the
stated meeting it has to have $25.00 with it in order to be read at the meeting. The petition is then held over until the next month’s
Stated Meeting where it will be voted on. The remaining $65.00 has to be paid before the new prophet is taken into the Grotto.
Petitions are available at the Grotto or can be printed off the Abbas Grotto website at www.abbasgrotto.com.

Hello Grotto Family,
Spring will be here before we no it and with that comes the Annual Easter Party. It will be
March 21st, at 10:30 to 12:30. We still need to finalize the party plans so hopefully many
of you can attend the next meeting. The next meeting is March 8th so please mark your
calendar.
We are trying something new this year. We are going to have 5-6 carnival booths set up
and each child will receive a punch card to play each game one time. Then they can go
eat when they are ready. After that we will still have the cookie walk and egg hunt like
usual.
Please bring 2-3 dozen cookies to the grotto on Friday so we can get the plates made
early the next morning.
There is a fish fry the day before the party. That is a good time to drop off cookies. We
will do a little decorating after the fish fry too if its not to late.
Please let me know if you will be able to help at the party. We will need a lot of people to
help with the games, cooking, and helping the bunny spread the eggs out.

Sick and Distressed Prophets
Carl Schmitz, PM fell and broke his hip. Carl had hip surgery and they put 3 pins in
his hip rather than do a a hip replacement.
Randy Brenenstall, PM had surgery on his thyroid for what the Doctors believed was
cancer. Sue called me and reported the great newsthat there was no cancer.
Kenny Garner, had surgery at Mayo Clinic a few weeks ago but is home now.
Please put your thoughts and prayers with these prophets and their family.

This will be a scramble format: In a scramble, each player tees off on each hole. The best of the tee shots is
selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. The better of the second shots is determined,
and then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed.

Again this year, hole sponsorships are only $50.00 per hole. You can pick the
hole/holes that you want to sponsor. We will put your name on a sign and place it
on the hole/holes you designate.
After golfing, there will be a meal served at the Grotto with award presentations

welcome to attend the meal and awards presentations. Just let us know you’re
