Jim Dine was one of the artists featured this year during our series of Art Cart Program lessons and projects. Art Cart is
organized and presented by parent-volunteers with the support of the Central PTO. Primary students across all grades are
exposed to a variety of artists and art forms. Mr. Dine’s unique style was highlighted in 1st grade. Mrs. Gold’s first graders
created a beautiful “Jim Dine inspired” piece of art that is on display in the Primary Atrium. *See pictures at Our Central
Stories on district website.
Lunchroom supervisors Mrs. Latham and Mrs. Winchell brainstormed with staff to create the “Silver Spoon Award,” a
highly-coveted reward. Students who demonstrate exemplary behavior during lunch are eligible. “Spoon worthy” students
are able to choose prizes or coupons from the “Lunchroom Loot Treasure Chest.” Coupons include permission to read books
aloud during lunch; pick a friend to eat with; wearing the Silver Spoon King/Queen crowns; and enjoying five extra minutes
to eat with front-of-the-line privileges afterwards. “Lunchroom Lieutenant” has quickly become a favorite as students are
allowed to stand with and help supervisors. Congrats to our first “Lieutenant,” Eden Campbell!
The 8th Grade Kicked off Catching Kindness Week with an assembly with motivational speaker, Daniel Moore. The
initiative, the brainchild of Bradley University students, Megan Whitford, Jasmine Musaitif, and Allison Appelbaum, is
aimed at increasing the empathy and kindness expressed by today's youth. Students are given a daily kindness task and are
asked to take pictures of their kind acts and post them on Snapchat. The students also place a flower on a virtual vase on
the wall in the hallway to show just how many acts have been documented for the week. The 8th Grade homeroom with
the most kindness acts on Snapchat will win a pizza party at the end of the week.

Ashley Houle and the 6th Grade Band performed their annual Cell Phone Concert in which the students call a parent,
relative or friend, place the phone at the front of the room on a music stand and then perform a number for their
enjoyment. This is one of many technology based concerts Mrs. Houle has orchestrated in band.
