Witness nature’s spectacle at its most dramatic. Capture a photo of the
“Big Five” while game viewing in pristine natural habitats. See firsthand
the remarkable young nations of Namibia and Botswana, which include
areas of some the world’s densest game populations.

in Namibia, we will be aboard, for three nights, the exclusively chartered
Five-Star M.S. ZAMBEZI QUEEN, featuring only 14 beautifully appointed
staterooms, each with a private balcony. Our expert naturalists will lead
excursions by small watercraft, a fantastic perspective from which to observe
the magnificent wildlife gathering along the Chobe River shores. During a
classic land safari aboard four-wheel-drive vehicles, enjoy superb game
viewing in seldom-visited Chobe National Park in Botswana, a sanctuary
for nearly all of the southern African mammal species, complementing
our visit to MalaMala Game Reserve, an extension of South Africa’s
renowned Kruger National Park.
Follow Mandela’s long road to freedom from Soweto
to Robben Island, and the presidency of South Africa, “the rainbow nation.”
Visit Soweto and Mandela’s home, the Cradle of Humankind and important
African and Afrikaner cultural sites in Pretoria. Savor glorious Cape Town,
situated dramatically between Table Mountain and the sparkling waters of
Table Bay. Revel in spectacular seaside views and South Africa’s sublime Cape
Winelands, featuring visits to world-class wineries with their distinctive

Reader’s Corner
Want to learn more about the history
and culture of southern Africa?
Here’s a good start:
The Safari Companion
by Richard Estes
An invaluable encyclopedic guide
to Africa’s mammals by a noted
scientist, this perennial bestseller
includes black-and-white drawings,
an overview of each animal group
and in-depth information. Written
with the typical safari-goer in mind.
The Expedition to the Baobab Tree
by Wilma Stockenstrom
Translated from Afrikaans by Nobel
Prize recipient J.M. Coetzee, this is the
powerful story of a slave woman,
the sole survivor of an expedition to
southern Africa, who finds shelter in a
baobab tree and recounts vivid scenes
from her past, including her capture as
a child and life under different masters
in a harbor city on the eastern coast.
