Disaster education classes were organized at elementary schools in Phuket and Krabi, Thailand(2015/12/8-12) Theme:Disaster education class Location:Phuket (Patong and Kamala beach) and Krabi (Phi Phi Island), Thailand These follow up disaster education classes were organized at four elementary schools in Phuket (Patong and Kamala beach) and Krabi (Phi Phi Island), Thailand following those similar activities held in the United State, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia in 2014. There were about 200 students in total attended the classes organized by Assoc, Prof. Anawat Suppasri, Ms. Mari Yasuda (Disaster Risk Evaluation Research Division) and Assist. Prof. Rui Nouchi (Human and Social Response Research Division) and Mr. Sorot Sawatdiraksa, Thailand`s Southern meteorological center (West coast). The class consisted of three main parts, 1. Lecture on the 2011 tsunami as lessons from Japan, 2. Disaster game using stamps called Stamp rally and 3. Distribution and explanation of Gensai Pocket. At Baan Kalim School (Patong beach) where the class was held at this school last year, they have very good impression since last year and increase of their disaster awareness can be confirmed. 36th Rajaprajanugroh School (Kamala beach) is about 10 m away from the sea and experienced large damage by the tsunami in 2004. In this school, not only students but also five teachers also joined the class. Prarachatanbankohphiphi School (Phi Phi Island) had 3 m flow depth by the 2004 tsunami. Then teachers also joined the class. Ban Leamtong School (Phi Phi Island) located on a hill which is a designate evacuation shelter. The school can only be accessed by 40 min small boat ride and 15 min walk along sand beach. Grade 1-6 students attended and enjoyed the stamp rally. In future, we will apply what we learned from this research to the disaster education classes which will be conducted in other regions and countries.
