Hands-On • Civil War Pizza
What?
Pizza strategy is another method of manipulating vocabulary to fit big ideas or themes.
Why?
This strategy allows students opportunities to practice with vocabulary in an interactive way.
How?
Students work in pairs or individually.
Have students brainstorm meaning of each term to confirm meaning
Have students put the pizza slices together according to the
information.
If students are unable to match the pieces, they may reenter the text
(social studies or other informational text) to locate the information
needed to form the pizza.
Students time each other to see who can put the pizza together faster.
When?
You can use this anytime during the guided practice phase
