In summer, students normally complete 7 c.h. of course work in French: The CIDEF (‘see-deaf’) Most Meredith College women who study French language and culture in France follow a program at our partner institution, the CIDEF, in Angers, France. The Centre International d’Etudes Françaises is an institute of the Université Catholique de l’Ouest. Since 1986, nearly 100 Meredith College students have travelled to the CIDEF to discover France. Meredith College students travel alone, in pairs or in small groups. Housing and meals Most Meredith College women choose to live with a family in Angers during their program of study, but private apartments and ‘residence hall’-style housing are also available. Meredith College students may share meals with their French family, cook for themselves, or take meals in a university-style cafeteria, or a combination of these. Credit for a 4-week homestay In summer and during fall and spring semesters, organized trips to places of interest in France punctuate students’ routine. Students travel to places like the Loire River castles (above, the château de Chambord), the 1944 Normandy invasion beaches, le mont St-Michel, St-Malo, le Morbihan (includes the prehistoric Carnac monoliths), and a sound-and-light spectacular. Where is Angers? In fall or spring, earn up to 18 c.h. All students take ‘LANGUE’ (6 c.h.). Students with very good placement test results are invited to take more advanced courses like Translation 3 c.h. Theater 3 c.h. Phonetics 3 c.h. Business French 3 c.h. French history 3 c.h. and others. Credits transfer back to Meredith College. Meredith College Angers is located in northwestern France, roughly half-way between Paris and the Atlantic coast. From Angers, you can reach Paris in under 90 minutes by high-speed rail. Angers is a beautiful city of music, flowers, history, and technology.
