GROSVENOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL SPANISH DEPARTMENT ADVICE TO PARENTS OF GCSE PUPILS ASSESSMENT CONTROLLED ASSESSMENTS • During Form 5, pupils will be completing four tasks in Spanish that will count for 60% of their overall GCSE grade. It is a little bit like coursework and is carried out in controlled conditions. They have a set period of time to prepare the task in class before completing it in exam conditions. They will have been given plenty of materials in class to help with their preparation. ORGANISATION •Your son/daughter should bring their Spanish folder and small blue vocabulary book to each lesson. •They will receive a booklet for each topic as listed on their topic overview sheet. They should ensure they file these in order in their folder. •They should bring a pencil case containing a blue or black pen, a red pen, a pencil, a rubber and a ruler. FILES •FILE SECTIONS – General –GCSE essentials booklet –Language topics –Conversation –Writing –Vocabulary tests –Past papers HOMEWORKS •Your son/daughter will have regular homework. It is particularly important that he/she learns new vocabulary regularly and this requires time and effort. You can help by asking your son/daughter to say, spell or write down the new words. You can also check progress in the booklet. Does this word drop or take an accent in the plural? -SPELLINGS Are there words you regularly misspell? -AGREEMENT Adjectives – masculine/feminine and singular/plural -VERBS Right verb? Right part of the verb? -TENSES Correct tense? In Form 4 you will be completing work that will help you prepare for controlled assessment speaking and writing tasks that you will be set in Form 5. As you can see good organisation will help when you are preparing for the controlled assessments and for revision purposes in Form 5. You will also need all material from Form 4 for your listening and reading exams.
