Advancing Care for Neurosurgery Patients
The Y.O.T. Full Circle Foundation is dedicated to improving the
lives of people across the country.
Last year the foundation established the Mary Jane and Bob Tritsch Family Endowed
Chair in Pediatric Neurosurgery in honor of Francesco Mangano, DO, FACS, FAAP,
FACOS, Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Cincinnati Children’s. The Tritsch family has
witnessed first-hand the life-changing work of Dr. Mangano—and the entire Division of
Pediatric Neurosurgery—and wanted to support their pioneering work.
“Dr. Mangano is an incredibly talented surgeon and researcher,” says Konnie Boulter,
executive director of the foundation. “The Tritsch family has been personally touched
by the amazing things he’s doing in the operating room and laboratory. This
endowed chair will provide Dr. Mangano necessary financial support while ensuring
that Cincinnati Children’s will be able to recruit and retain the top minds in the
profession to change the outcome for generations to come.”

Honoring the Good Fight
The one thing Michelle and Chris want you to know about their son,
Liam, is that he lived up to the meaning of his name—“powerful warrior.”
When he was just 4 months old, Liam began regularly spiking high fevers without
a diagnosis. Despite his repeated illnesses, Liam never lost his playful spirit and
irresistible grin—until he became severely ill at 14 months old.
“He was diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH, a deadly
immune deficiency disorder,” Michelle remembers. “We immediately began
researching and discovered Cincinnati Children’s was the most experienced
facility in the nation in treating the disease.”
Not long afterwards, Michelle moved from Colorado to Cincinnati to put Liam in
our care. “The only cure for Liam was a bone marrow transplant, but a match was
never found.” Michelle exhales slowly. “His care team tried everything, but Liam
lost his battle.”
Wanting to do something to honor Liam’s memory and continue his fight against
HLH, Michelle founded Liam’s Lighthouse Foundation to help families facing this
devastating disease. Each year, the foundation holds a 5K in New York City and
visits The Today Show to raise money and awareness for HLH research.
In 2016, the foundation raised $110,000 to advance HLH research at Cincinnati
Children’s. “They did everything they could for Liam.” Michelle steadies her voice.
“We want to remember his fight by giving back to help them find a cure for HLH.”

Supporting the Next Generation of Research
Scott and Mimi Chamberlain recently established the Cole Chamberlain
Fellowship for Eosinophilic Diseases to advance care in our Cincinnati
Center for Eosinophilic Disorders (CCED).
Named in honor of their son, the fellowship will support the work of Vincent
Mukkada, MD, an expert in gastrointestinal disorders, as he trains the next
generation of researchers specializing in eosinophilic disease.
The Chamberlain family lives in Las Vegas, yet they travel to Cincinnati for Cole’s
care. Scott and Mimi are profoundly grateful for Dr. Mukkada’s research and clinical
expertise, which is why they chose to make a gift to Cincinnati Children’s.
“There is no better comfort as a parent than to have full confidence in those overseeing
the treatment of your child with a rare disease,” says Mimi. “Our hope is that this
fellowship will spark interest among young doctors in specializing in eosinophilic
diseases and continue the amazing work that is being done at the CCED, spreading
that work to other communities. We want other families to experience the confidence
we have in Dr. Mukkada and the team at Cincinnati Children’s.”

Celebrating Our Community
and Our Accomplishments in Care
Each year, Cincinnati Children’s hosts two signature events in celebration
of our patients, families and supporters—the heart of all we do.
The events raise vital funds and build awareness for the medical center. Year after
year, we’re grateful to be joined by so many patients, friends, caregivers, community
members and business leaders who generously support our mission to improve child
health and transform delivery of care.
In 2016, our signature black-tie gala, the Celestial Ball, celebrated our longstanding
partnership with the Cincinnati Reds and raised more than $1 million to support our
community health programs.
Our community fundraising walk, Cincinnati Walks for Kids, took participants on an
adventure through the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, raising nearly $900,000
to benefit Cincinnati Children’s.
Combined, the two events brought together nearly 10,000 diverse members of our
community to celebrate our shared accomplishments.
Because of the support of friends like you, the Celestial Ball and Cincinnati Walks
for Kids have raised more than $15 million over the years—advancing discoveries,
improving treatments and helping to keep kids safe and healthy.
