CHILD & FAMILY AWARENESS MONTH STEERING COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES An Elementary School Student Creative Poster/Slogan Contest On the subject of “A FAMILY IS …” PURPOSE: Child abuse prevention through education and public awareness. ELIGIBILITY: Any student in Summit County enrolled in an elementary school in grades K through 5. Each participating school will submit contest entries by Friday, January 29, 2016 directly to: Summit County Children Services 264 S. Arlington Street Akron, Ohio 44306 ATTN: Lisa Hamilton-Green TOPIC: Students should design a poster completing the phrase, “A Family is …” e.g. “A Family is Having Fun Together.” The poster and slogan should depict positive family life, values and activities. The slogan must be original. Use of a previous winning slogan will make the entry ineligible. Entries must include a slogan completing the phrase, “A Family is …” and an illustrated drawing that supports the slogan. Please make sure words are spelled correctly. Submit only eligible entries; entries must be completed with a slogan and drawing. ENTRIES CANNOT HAVE STUDENTS’ NAMES ON THE FRONT. Please include the student’s first and last name, student’s grade, school name, address and phone number and the teacher’s name on the back of the entry. NOTE: See Additional Information (below) regarding special Student Identification Labels that are available. Submit the 10 best posters from grades K-3 and the 10 best posters from grades 4-5 (for a total of 20 per school). DO NOT: laminate or mount posters nor have the whole class use the same slogan. Posters will be judged upon: Originality and Creativity Overall concept (how well the slogan and drawing relate to one another) How well it illustrates positive family life ALL JUDGES’ DECISIONS ARE FINAL!! AWARDS & PRIZES: All entrants will receive a Certificate of Participation in the contest. Honorable Mention winners will also be selected. Winners will receive a check, medallion, and Achievement Certificate. One (1) Grand Prize Winner will also be selected. This winner will receive a check, medallion, trophy and Achievement Certificate. NOTE: The Grand Prize winner's poster and slogan will be used as the theme for the 30th Annual Child & Family Awareness Month in 2017. All winners and their families will be invited to an Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Time, location and other details will be identified at a later date. Winning entries will be on display throughout the month of April at the Akron-Summit County Public Library; they will be returned to the winners in May. All other entries will be returned after the winners have been selected. The GRAND PRIZE winning poster will become the property of Summit County Children Services for one (1) year. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Building Principals will determine the extent of a school’s participation (number of students, classes, selection committee, etc.). ENTRIES CANNOT HAVE STUDENTS NAME ON THE FRONT. Student Identification Labels should be securely attached to the back of the poster. DO NOT put any identification information on the front of the poster. Labels are available by contacting Summit County Children Services at (330) 379-2090. SCHOOLS MUST PREPARE AND MAINTAIN A LIST OF ALL STUDENTS ENTERING THE CONTEST, SO RECOGNITION CERTIFICATES CAN BE PROVIDED WHEN YOU DELIVER YOUR ENTRIES ON OR BEFORE JANUARY 29, 2016 TO SUMMIT COUNTY CHILDREN SERVICES, 264 S. ARLINGTON STREET, AKRON, OHIO 44306. Children of Summit County Children Services’ employees are not eligible for prizes, but may enter the contests and receive a Certificates of Participation.
