The fun of the carnival! Homework Project Term 3 – Year 3 Thank you for the continued support of your child’s learning This term we are focusing on a science theme – electricity, light and sound. Children must complete activity a, b and two other activities from the list. Remember to name all homework. These activities link to the children’s learning in Theme lessons and promotes the use of independent learning skills as well as English and Maths skills. It is ok if you need to support them in these tasks. If the children have any queries they can ask me in class although we have gone over the tasks in class. This homework should be completed alongside regular reading (at least 5 times per week at home), spelling and times tables practice. Children may bring the homework pieces in as they complete them and all 4 pieces must be completed by Friday 5th February. This works out as a week to do each piece. If you have any questions please come and see me. A – English, A setting description Imagine you are at a carnival. Describe the setting using your 5 senses, similes, metaphors and personification. Remember it’s a description and not a story so nothing should actually happen. D - Light, optical illusion Complete the bird in the cage optical illusion from the attached sheet. Remember to put your name on it because yours won’t be the only one! B – Maths You have a menu for carnival foods. You are going with two parents and one friend, how much will it cost for you all to eat what you would like. Write down the items you have chosen and how much it will cost altogether. Remember to show your working. E – Sound Write a poem about all of the sounds that you would hear at a carnival. You could call it “The Sound Collector”. There is already a poem of this name, you can research it to help. C – Art Make a poster about being safe around electricity. Remember that posters should be bold and clear. Don’t include too much writing. F – Carnival float Research a carnival float on the internet, or use pictures you have from a carnival you have visited, and print off a picture. Reuse things you would have thrown away to create a model of the float. Hand in the float and the picture.
