The Thorough-Read News 1925 Furlong Run, Lawrenceville 30043 Issue 11, Volume 16 Chairman FROM YOUR CHAIRMAN Steve Curry (770) 962-5699 Greetings to all, Facility President [email protected] Just a few notes this month. As you will see elsewhere in this newsletter, the work on our tennis courts is moving right along. Thanks to Nate Orrico for supervising the installation of the French drain to control the erosion at courts one and two, and for working with the contractor to move ahead on replacing the two courts. We should have everything in place in time for our winter teams to take the courts. The terms of your Association board members are about to end, so it’s time to consider pitching in to serve on the board. If you want to be involved in moving our neighborhood forward and keeping it a great place to live, and think serving on the board might be a good way for you to do that, please let me or any board member know. If you have questions about any of the positions and what is involved with filling the role, you can also contact me or any other board member. Our emails are listed in this newsletter. Terms are for one year, with the option of serving for a second year. After someone serves in a position for two years, they must rotate off the board or move to another position on the board. This year, the following positions will be open due to the board member rotating or not returning: Facility president, Facility social, Community social, Swim/Tennis coordinator, and secretary. In the other positions, the current members plan to return if elected by the membership. Of course, anyone who is eligible can run for any position, so if you are interested in any position—currently open or not— you can run for that office. We will have a General Membership meeting Tuesday, November 29, to review the status of our operating and reserve budgets, to review the status of tennis court repairs, to vote on updating bylaws related to the Permanent Community Membership option, and to elect the Association board for 2017. An agenda for the meeting and the exact language of the bylaw revisions will be distributed via eblast in the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your support of our neighborhood. Mark your calendar for November 29, 7:30 p.m. at the pavilion, and have a safe and Happy Halloween. They will bloom a little more during November but will get straggly by the end of the month. Bulbs need to be in the soil over winter since the cold temperatures help them develop flowers for spring. So if you plant numerous bulbs this month, when spring comes you will enjoy some amazing colors. If you plant pansies for the winter, plant them now and they should be established for the winter months. Plant them 6” apart in welldrained soil with organic matter. As far as our lawns, we can finally take a break. Bermudagrass will soon be dormant and fescue will start looking green again. Lime can be added to both Bermudagrass and fescue during this month. As always, if you have any lawn or garden questions, you can contact the UGA /Co-op Extension office at 678.377.4010. They are available for free advice Monday thru Friday. As a reminder, please attend the General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, November 29, 7:30pm. If your home was a Yard of the Month winner, you are eligible to receive a $25 gift card … but you must be present to win.
