AS Printall technical requirements for the preparation of printing materials 01.03.2010 1. General 1.1. Technical requirements have been developed by AS Printall according to ISO 12647. 1.2. Technical requirements are mandatory for the preparation of print materials and if ignored, the printing plant cannot guarantee deviance-free print quality. 1.3. The current technical requirements are public and available at www.printall.ee with an indication on the date of the last update. 2. Printing process 2.1. Coldset print will be done using web offset presses without heating. The following types of paper are used: standard newsprint paper 38 g/m2 to 48.8 g/m2); improved newsprint paper 49 g/m2 to 60 gm2. 2.2. The maximum tolerance in colour register t of the newspaper print is 0.3 mm. 2.3. Tolerance for optical density of solid scale in newspaper print is ± 0.1 D. 2.4. Heat set print: 2.4.1. Using web offset presses with heating. The following types of paper are used: coated paper 48 g/m2 to 130 g/m2; uncoated paper 70 g/m2 to 90 g/m2; improved newsprint paper 49 g/m2 to 60 g/m2. MFC paper (mechanical finished coated paper) 57 g/m2 to 60 g/m2. 2.4.2. using sheet-fed presses with offset-technology and the following types of paper: coated paper 80 g/m2 to 300 g/m2; uncoated paper 70 g/m2 to 250 g/m2. 2.5. mm. 2.6. The maximum tolerance in colour register of the heat set and sheet fed print is 0.1 Tolerance for optical density of solid scale in heat set and sheet fed print is ± 0.1 D. 3. File naming 3.1. Files must be named in accordance with the following general rule: First part of the file is the product code – in CAPITAL LETTERS +serial number_second part page number – always with three numbers!!_ third part indicates advertising, if there is any _the ending of the re-sent files is in CAPITAL LETTERS - NEW, NEW2, NEW3 etc; divided by underscore – (NB, underscore, not dash or minus!!). Examples: Eesti Naine May page 7: EN05_007.pdf. Eesti Naine May page 7 with advertising: EN05_007_cocacola.pdf. Eesti Naine May page 7 with advertising, re-sent: EN05_007_cocacola_new.pdf. 3.2. An underscore must be used as the separator. The name cannot include characters such as dash, minus, comma, slash, brackets etc. Also language-specific letters must not be used (õ, ä, ö, ü, å etc.) 3.3. In case of errors in file names, there may be flaws in page layouts. 4. Sending files 4.1. Files must be sent to ftp.printall.ee. Each customer receives a separate folder and password will be provided, which will be agreed on separately. 4.2. Files must be sent on previously agreed dates and times, at the latest. In case of delays, the printing house cannot guarantee a timely completion of products. 4.3. Only the AS Printall prepress department has the authority to delete and rename the files on the ftp server and all faulty files, corrected and updated files must be sent with a modified name, in that case, the file-name must include the word “new” and in case of multiple sending, the file name must be marked with the renewal count. Example: TELELEHT07_002__CocaCola_new; TELELEHT 07_002__CocaCola_new2. 4.4. The client has to inform the AS Printall prepress department or client manager via phone and e-mail about all changes, updates and lags related to materials and agree upon possible changes in the production schedule. 5. File formats 5.1. AS Printall accepts composite pdf files which match the ISO standard 15930-1 pdf/x1a: 2001 and ISO standard 15930-4 pdf/x-1a: 2003. 5.2. The content file must consist of at least one full page. 5.3. All distinctions must be agreed on together with the prepress department. 5.4. All fonts to be used must be embedded within the file. 6. Design 6.1. The design will be done to scale of 1:1. 6.2. Designing products (A3), not trimmed into final format, 12mm of clear space must be left on the upper, lower and outer edge of the final product. 6.3. On solid black areas must be used the combination of 100% Black, 50% Cyan, 40% Magenta, 40%. 6.4. All pages must be centred and products which will be trimmed to final format, crop marks and bleed must be used. 6.5. The covers of perfect binded products should be uploaded in spread layout. If the covers are uploaded separately, the spine of the product must be added to the front cover file and the front cover must be centred. 6.6. Special parts (brochures, inserts, triple covers) must have the folding marks. Also, an illustrative maquett must be added either on paper or as a file. 6.7. In case of an agreement with the prepress department, the file may include several sequential full pages. 6.8. In product layout, the black-and-white objects must be presented in grayscale format. 6.9. In product layout, all colour pictures and objects must be presented in CMYK format. 6.10. If the product layout is designed for standard and improved newsprint paper, the full areas (backgrounds and other dominating layout objects) must be in 90% raster. 6.11. In product layout, the black objects with line width below 0.2mm and texts (headings, sub-headings, main texts) smaller than 10 points may not contain other colours. 6.12. In product layout, the colour objects smaller than 10 points and with line width below 0.2 may not contain negative fonts. 6.13. In product layout, black framed objects (crossword grid, table grid, picture frames and similar design elements) cannot contain other colours (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow). 6.14. During material processing, the Printall prepress department will not change the trapping mechanisms used by the client. 6.15. During material processing the overprint will be left unchanged for all colours, for 100% black colour will be done forced overprint. Recommendation: do not use overprint for other colours except black. 6.16. on perfect binded products there is a danger of losing 2-3mm of picture, text etc. During design, this must be kept in mind and if necessary, the compensation method should be used. This means doubling objects which pass from one page to the next. Materials passing from cover to contents, both pages should be compensated by 5mm. In case of using Online glue, the area loss is 1-2 mm. Recommendation: It should be observed that in cases of transitional pages, the text columns will not cross the product spine and in cases of transitional headings, the word gap is placed at the transition of the pages. It is recommended to decide on the most suitable compensation method in cooperation with Printall's prepress department. 6.17. In designing products which will be trimmed to final format, the critical objects (text, logos etc.) must be placed not less than 5mm inside from the outer edge of the page. Also 5mm of bleed must be placed on the upper, lower and outer edges of the page. 6.18. No other colours must be placed under additional spot colour. 6.19. Screen ruling is defined by the prepress department and in cases of coated paper it is 150 lpi, in cases of MFC paper it is 137 lpi, in cases of improved newsprint paper it is 112 lpi and in cases of standard newsprint paper it is 85 lpi. Recommendation: in image processing, the image resolution to be used should be double screen density (e.g. in newsprint the optimal resolution of the images is 170 dpi). As the standard newsprint paper has a grey shade, it is advised to increase the colour brightness and increase the colour saturation by using, for example the Photoshop tool Hue/Saturation. Also, to sharpen the pictures and highlight the details in case of newspaper print, the Photoshop tool Unsharp Mask is recommended. 7. Colour management 7.1.
