2.4 Procedures Customs: Class A vessels: Please follow your ship’s agent instructions. The rest of vessels: There are no customs formalities on arrival. Although the Canary Islands are in the EU Custom territory, they are outside the EU Customs tax territory, so VAT is not applied here. Instead, there is a local low tax on sales and services called IGIC which has a general rate of 7%. They are considered as a duty‐free area, so yachts are not expected to clear Customs. Importing spares: it is highly recommended to work with a customs agent(*) if bringing in items of value, since this way the item can both be sent as cargo from airport to airport and arrangements can also be made for the item to be imported to the vessel as “a vessel in transit”, thus avoiding importation taxes. If so, it is highly recommended that your parcel is addressed to the customs agent, writing clearly that it is consignee to “Customs Agent NAME” and his/her contact telephone. Please enclose invoice with spare part value excluding VAT. (*)

Courier companies (DHL, Fedex, UPS, TNT) can be rather difficult to work with as they either have in‐house customs departments or send off packages to a third country, upon which point, they can be very difficult to trace. In case you do, be sure to add a contact telephone No. on the package. Immigration: The Canary Islands are part of the Schengen area. Visa exemptions and requirements are as for Spain. Visas are not required for nationals of the EU, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland regardless of the length of stay. Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and USA can stay visa free up to 90 days. Passports of crew members in transit are not normally stamped on arrival, but if crew members of third countries leave EU Schengen area or wish to leave the island by other mean of transport even within EU boundaries, it is essential to get their passports stamped at POLICIA DE FRONTERAS
Immigration Office (‘Policía Frontera’) Edificio Autoridad Portuaria (Primo de Ribera dock) Tel:928 264 431 Opening hours: 24h/7days This office is located at the eastern end of the main Port Authority building (edificio Autoridad Portuaria) in the port compound. This can be reached by taxi or bus no.1. The main Port Authority building is 10 minutes by taxi from the marina. The rest of vessels: Please, provide a printed crew list, with full names, nationalities, passport numbers and Visa No (only for 3rd country crew members) to our marina office on arrival. See form in Annex II. -9 -
Las Palmas
2.8 Customs & Immigration Class A vessels: Please produce your ISPS declaration through your agent on arrival. Ship’s agents will keep you informed. See ISPS statement in Annex I. Santa Catalina dock: gate port control access in force by night hours. Provided up‐date crew list to the port police control access The rest of vessels at MARINA LAS PALMAS: Common measures should be taken to ensure security while at the marina. A magnetic card system for the pontoon gates/showers. Yachts/vessels are only given access to their own pontoons. A comprehensive CCTV system is in operation, as well as regular patrols by the Port Police. However, it is important to remember that this is a public marina and non‐sailors are frequently around the pontoons. There have been reports of burglaries at night while crew are sleeping and therefore it is best to adopt the policy of locking your front door at night and not leaving anything of value visible on deck or in the cockpit. 3 BERTHING 3.1 Special Berthing Instructions Class A vessels (Sta. Catalina dock): Contact Las Palmas Port Control on VHF 12 and follow instructions. Pilotage is compulsory for all Class A ships over 500 GT and available on a 24‐hour basis. Pilot will board the vessel at embarkation point, 1,2´from the Reina Sofia Pier lighthouse, (l: 28º 06,94´N; L: 015º 23,20´W) and will assess situation to advise for towage and mooring service to be requested through Las Palmas Port Control. It takes about 30‐45 minutes since pilot boards vessel and berths in Sta. Catalina. Rest of vessels (Marina Las Palmas): As vessel approaches, call on VHF Ch 11 when it is close to Reina Sofia breakwater. Just in case difficulties in communication, call on VHF Ch 12 (Las Palmas Port Control). Port boat will welcome you while approaching to the marina and lead you to your berth place. The entrance by night into the marina is hard to detect and the situation is made more confusing by the entrance being marked by two red flashing lights, the one to be left to starboard being located at the eastern end of the northern breakwater, the other (port side) at the northern end of the main (southern) breakwater. Vessels should favour the starboard side of the narrow entrance as the port side is fouled and shallow. - 10 -
