RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS,
COtJNTY OF SACRAMENTO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA,

AS "TALK . THEY HEAR YOU DAY"
IN SACRAMENTO COtJNTY
WHEREAS, the SACRAMENTO COUNTY COALIT].ON FOR YOUTH
wi].I
actively participate in a three-month campaignfocused on
reducing youth access to alcoho.Land underage drinking beginning
on April 6, 2017, with a "TALK. THEYHEARYOUDAY" community
event ; and
WHEREAS, the
SACRAMENTOCOUNTY COALITION FOR YOUTH is
supported by SacramentoCounty Alcoho]. & Drug Services, and in
partnership with The Coaliti.on f or a Safe and Healthy ArdenArcade, they will- continue to work to educate. inform and
encourageparents to talk with their children about underage
drinking through a community campaignbased on a model program
developed by the Federal SubstanceAbuse and Mental Health
Services Administration; and
WHEREAS,
the number one substance of abuse by young people
age 12 to 20 in SacramentoCounty is alcohol, and i.mportantly,
approximately 80%of children surveyed agree that parental
interaction is key in their decision to use or not use alcohol;
and
WHEREAS,
other studies have shownthat parents do have a
significant influence on young people's decisions about al-cobol
consumption
and it
is
intended
that
the
"TALK.
THEY HEAR YOU"
campaignwi]]. offer strategies f or parents and their children to
have products.ve conversations and includes educationa]. and
support elements f or parents; and
WHEREAS,
the "TALK. THEYHEARYOU"campaigncoincides with
--Nationa].Alcohol AwarenessMonth" which aims to i.ncrease public
awareness, reduce stigma and encouragecom-munities to f ocus on
alcohol-related issues such as preventing underage drinking

FOR

and other organizations and initiatives,
is providing
].ocal leadership in a nationwide effort to bring focus to this
