CPD
Q: What is the configuration file ?
A: The configuration files are the link between the personalised applications and the Copy
3/26
Protection Device. This information must match in order for the programmes to work.
Q: What is a setting file ?
A: The ‘Settings’ file also stores information related to the default repertory, background colours and
other personal settings chosen by the user.
Q: What is a dongle (CPD)?
A: Dongles, or Copy Protection Devices (CPDs) are the means by which the customer’s
individualised applications can be opened. Information is stored on the CPD that links it with the
customer’s configuration file on the application CD
Q: What are drivers?
A : A driver is the software needed to run a hardware device such as a printer, monitor, or Copy
Protection Device. These drivers often come pre-installed on a new computer. When you run a
computer for the first time, you may have to configure the correct driver for your brand and model of
hardware, such as the printer. If you buy a new printer later, however, you may have to get a new
driver for your new printer from the printer manufacturer. It is the same with KHA Copy Protection
Devices. They need drivers to tell the computer how to use them.
Q: How does ‘softkey’ work?
A: ‘Softkey’ locks your CPD to your computer’s homeopathy software. The software ‘remembers’
your CDP’s identity, and your CPD ‘remembers’ your computer’s hard drive. When ‘softkey’ is
enabled, your homeopathic software and CPD essentially become a ‘mated pair’. The CPD cannot
be used with another computer until it is first ‘unlocked’ from the original computer. CPDs can be
locked and unlocked as often as desired, although most people prefer to lock their CPD once, and
unlock only when changing computer hard drive or software configuration.
Q: How do I use ‘softkey?
A: Follow these steps to enable ‘Softkey’: ß Complete installation of MacRepertory and
ReferenceWorks according to the instructions included with your package. ß Start one or the other
of the programs. ß (Note: It is only necessary to enable ‘softkey’ in one program for BOTH to work
without the key.) ß At the File menu, choose Preferences. ß A white menu box will open in the
center of your screen. ß In the upper left-hand corner of the menu box, you’ll see the following ‘copy
protection’ options: “Use copy protection device” / “Use this computer only”
To enable ‘softkey’ choose “Use this computer only” You may now unplug your CPD. It will not be
required to open, close, or run your programs on this computer. Keep your CPD in a safe
location, as you will need to ‘unlock’ it if you make a change to your computer hardware (like a new
4
hard drive) or your homeopathy software (like upgrading to a new library.) Please do not lose your
CPD. It represents the value of your programs and you will be charged for a replacement if it is lost.
Reverse the steps above to disable ‘softkey’ and free your CPD for use on another computer.
Please note : In programs purchased in India from 2013 the option to lock the key to the computer
is disabled.
Q: Will ‘softkey’ work on more than one computer?
A: No. Each key is locked to its own computer once Softkey is enabled. You must purchase a
second CPD if you wish to enable ‘softkey’ on more than one machine.
Q: How many computers can I use the software on?
A: Your license authorizes you to load your software on as many computers as you like (some
restrictions apply), but you must use your CPD while working with the software (unless you have a
‘softkeyed’ computer/CPD combo). One CPD is included in the price of your software package. A
second CPD is available for separate purchase at the time of initial purchase, or as an add-on at
any time.
Q: What if I break my CPD?
A: There is no charge for replacement of a damaged or defective CPD within 30-days of purchase.
After 30 days, the replacement charge for damaged or worn CPD is $99.00 US. (Price as of
Feb.2014 Prices subject to change without notice)
Q: What if my computer breaks or if I need to have work done on it?
A: We recommend that before you have your computer worked on – especially if you are replacing
the hard drive – that you disable the softkey feature. If you don’t disable softkey, your key may not
recognize your new hardware. Tech support has the ability to un-lock the key with a date-sensitive
password over the phone or email for certain versions of the program. If this fails, you may have to
send your CPD back to us so that it can be “un-locked”. This service incurs a nominal charge.
Q: What is the HASP key?
A: Sentinel HASP is the industry’s first and only rights management solution to
enable the use of either software- or hardware-based protection keys (USB dongles)
to enforce software protection and licensing.
This is how a HASP key looks :
KHA (Synergy) will be using this key from now (June 2013 ) on for all its programs. ( Excluding
German versions for the near future)
5/26
This key, provided the right installers are installed, works for Windows AND for Macintosh alike.
Users of versions earlier then 8.3 will not be able to use the program with this key and will need to
update or upgrade depending on their version.
Q: What do I need to know about the Installation of the HASP key?
A: Installation of a HASP Key
The Installation of the driver will happen automatically with the connection to the net, or manually
from the mentioned location. The installer is not designed at the moment to install the driver from
the DVD automatically .
Plug in the new HASP HL key.
Observe as Windows then proceeds to automatically download the new drivers from SafeNet that
are required for this key.
The red light on the key should go on.
This is a new feature.
The user needs to be of course online.
If the connection to the internet is not available, or there is a problem with getting the driver, you can
still proceed with the install. Later go to Documents/KHA Extras to HASPUserSetup6413.exe
(Windows) and in the dmg file (Mac- the file downloaded from the net, or the one on the USB
drive) to manually install the driver.
The drivers are also found on the website:

Q: How to change my settings
A: Open the File menu , and go to Start up files…
10
Go to Select , and select a setting from the List.
The Click OK to return to the Dialogue , and again OK to bring
up the message that requests a restart of MacRepertory.
Confirm with OK.
MacRepertory will start with your new setting. You will be
required to choose a Repertory and a Keynote (MM) from the
list of available books.
You do not have access to all the books you will see on the list,
so the easiest is to choose Kent as a Repertory (everyone has
Kent), and Allen’s Keynotes as a MM.
Q:How to get the latest drivers for the CPD?
We are not including the driver in the Extras folder any longer. Best for customers to get the latest
driver available from Safenet :
http://www.safenet-inc.com/support-downloads/sentinel-drivers/
You have two options. Have them run the Installer and only select the Hasp Driver (they will get the
one on the DVD) or have them download and install from the Safenet website.
Note that on the Mac we have used the older version of the driver as it supports 10.4.1.1 and the
latest driver does not. Since our programs are still supported on 10.4.1.1 it was decided to use the
older driver on our DVD for now.

Message: "Please connect the authorization key"
In 99% of all cases, the cause is that the driver has been misdirected by the Operating System
11/26
away from the Universal Serial Bus Controller.
Windows Users
Solution: 1. Click OK to the message.
2. Close any windows that may be open.
3. Ensure key is in the correct port and that the green light on the key is on.
4. Locate your "My Computer" icon on the desktop (pre-Win XP users) and Right Click it. For
current XP users the "My Computer" is located by clicking the Start button.
5. Select "Properties" from the pop up menu that appears.
6. A window opens called "System Properties"; from here, depending on your Operating System,
you can click the "Tab" called "Device Manager" or if none is listed click "Hardware Manager" and
from the next window click "Device Manager".
7. From the list that appears, look for any items called "Unknown devices" or Devices that have a
"?" or "!" next to them. Double click on this driver and follow the prompts to "Re install" the
drivers for your CPD manually.
8. Once the driver has been installed, close all the windows and attempt to Restart MacRepertory
and /or ReferenceWorks.
9. If the "Please connect authorization key" still appears - Remove the key, Remove the Sentinel
driver through "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS”. Then Reinstall the Sentinel driver from the drivers
folder in the MacRepertory folder.
10. The latest Sentinel driver can be downloaded and installed from the key manufacturer (currently
7.1) Download Driver Here - http://www.safenet- inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp - OR you may
go to the Technical Downloads section of our website and click on the Sentinel Driver to download.
11. If the "Please connect authorization key" message still reappears, contact our Tech Support
Department for assistance.
Macintosh Users
Re-install your programs and your key should be recognized. If not, contact tech support.
Error Message: “the Hlvvd.dll file failed to install”
This is a message that a user will get if he tries to install an old version of MacRepertory on a new
computer. The best solution is to upgrade, but there is also a patch:
Open the Technical Downloads section of our website and download the “Hlvvd.zip” file.
Once you have downloaded this file:
1) Un-zip it using WinZip (if you do not have WinZip already installed on your computer, you may
download it for free from http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm)
2) Once the file has been un-zipped, place the “hlvvd.dll” file into the C:/Windows/System32
folder
12
3) Restart your computer – That’s it!
Error Message : .exe & .rsr files don’t match
Windows customers may get this error message after an auto update - "An Error Occurred:
-Versions of *.exe and *.rsr do not match..."
The problem you have with your MacRepertory is happening because during a recent update there
was an older version of the .rsr file (eg 8.0.2.4) that your recovery system saved for you. This
occurs outside of our control, unfortunately, and the only thing you can do to correct this is to
find the duplicate .rsr file on your computer where it is hidden and delete it.
Here is what you need to do.
Do a search for the following file: MacRepertory.rsr
You should find one here: Program Files/MacRepertory - but this is NOT the one that we need to
delete. If you do not find another MacRepertory.rsr file on your computer, then it could be in the
hidden area called AppData (or Application Data). Please follow the instructions below to locate this
file and if MacRepertory.rsr is in there, delete it and re-start MacRepertory:
Typically, the path on Vista or Windows 7 systems is: C:\Users\YourFolder\AppData\Local\Virtual
Store\Program Files\MacRepertory
NOTE: You are NOT choosing the Program Files folder at the root of your C:\ drive. It is one
recreated during the update process that Windows makes a copy of and is not needed. Always
delete the entire MacRepertory folder from this Virtual Store (as in storage) location and the
annoying messages will go away. (You will need to repeat this operation after any update that you
do in the future since it is a function of your Windows operating system).
After you delete the extra MacRepertory.rsr file, empty the trash and re-start MacRepertory.
Now go to the location below 'C\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files' and
delete 'MacRepertory folder.
Launch MacRepertory and you should no longer get the error message.
How can I work Keyless on MacRepertory and/or RefernceWorks
Very important notes – read carefully before you enable the softkey/keyless feature:
•
Once you enable the keyless feature, the key becomes locked to a serial number of your
hard drive and cannot be used on another computer unless it is un-locked. If, for any reason, you
13/26
are getting the computer serviced, going to reformat the drive or even load a KHA upgrade you
must UNLOCK the key first. Failing to unlock the key could result in the key needing to be sent back
to us to be “un-locked” as well as paying an “un-lock cpd” charge.
•
If you have both MacRepertory & ReferenceWorks programs, please set the Softkey in
MacRepertory first. Ensure ONLY MacRepertory is open. Do NOT have ReferenceWorks open
while enabling softkey in MR.
•
Also, please note that you must look after the key once you have locked the computer. If you
lose the key there will be a charge to unlock the computer and receive a new key.
For MacRepertory
1. After installing the applications, open MacRepertory 2. In MacRepertory, go to Option
menu/preferences. (Version 5.7) or File menu/ Preferences (version 6.0 or Higher) 3. Click on
"Use this computer only" and click OK 4. Shut down MacRepertory and remove the CPD (key) 5.
Restart MacRepertory and it should open without the key.
For ReferenceWorks
1. Install ReferenceWorks 2. Go to File menu/Preferences 3. Click on "Use this computer only and
click OK 4. Shut down ReferenceWorks and remove the CPD (key) 5. Restart ReferenceWorks and
it should open without the key
How to UNLOCK/disable keyless feature.
1. Please open your program. If you have both please ONLY open MacRepertory 2. Attach the key.
3. Go to File Menu (version 6.0 and higher) or Option Menu (version 5.7). Select Preferences. Click
"Use Copy Protection Device only".
4. Click OK. 5. ReferenceWorks will also be unlocked
Cannot find or locate MacRepertory.exe
1. Change the rights :right click on the exe file and choose properties. Go to Compatibility tab and
mark “Run as Administrator”
2. Old Installers may give this problem. Install the program from the newest installer.
3. Delete the following files: MacRepertory.exe , MacRepertory.rsr , MacRepertory Settings.rsr
Then reinstall from an original KHA installer.
A problem with "asintppc.dll" file ( MR )
Ask the user to open the program directly from the .exe file. (This should be located under
C:/Programs/MacRepertory or C:/Program Files (x86 )/ MacRepertory). Some users might have
moved independently the exe file to somewhere more “convenient” , or just have a corrupt shortcut.
This usually solves the problem.

Error Nr. -120
This error code is connected with the CPD.
This error means that the Config & the Key do not match.
You may get this error also if you have received a configuration file but no new CPD, and
your CPD was sent to you prior to Feb. 2013.
In this case, please update your Program via the internet. (Problem fixed in MacRepertory
8.3.1.1 )
Error Nr. -130
This error code is connected with the CPD.
This error means that the Config & the Key do not match. There is a softkey file that has a
different code in it.
Solution: Delete the softkey file ( under C:/User/(User’s Name) / App Data* / Roaming/
KHA) * App Data is a hidden folder, see Q: How to show hidden files ?

“error occurred mygetrsrc rsrc found but in wrong file ok to continue resource alis
GetAliasFromAliasID error 115”
Alias's are all stored in the settings file, so the solution will be to delete it...
If the problem persists, look for a copy of MacRepertory folder ( or MacRepertory DE )
under:
C:/ Users/user’s name/App Data/Local/Virtual store/ Program files ( or Program files
(x86) ).
Delete MacRepertory folder that is found here. ( App Data is a hidden folder)
Error Nr. 155
The 155 error means that there is no resource fork on the config file.
That can happen if the file is transferred without zipping it.
15/26
Error Nr. -39 / Error Nr. - 42 in RW
A shortcut to a folder doesn't work, possibly because ReferenceWorks was installed by a
different user on this computer

General
Q: What is the difference between a Classic and a Professional Version of MacRepertory ?
A: What does a Classic Version mean ? ( Info. source: David)
Pro vs. Classic in MacRepertory
Here is what happens when the Settings file is set to Classic.
The logic is (according to dkw): Anything having to do with Families or user customization
is reserved to the Pro version.
Disabled via the Menus:
•
No Editing Repertories (no Repertory Changes)
•
No sorting Rubrics in the Rubric Clips
•
No changing the Backgrounds.
•
No Style or Color of Rubrics in rubrics clips, but we allow font and size.
• No searching for Remedies, Words, Families or Concepts; But we do allow the
combined search feature: Search Remedies and Words - but we only allow using one side
or the other, not both.
• Also only one remedy or one word can be searched at a time, ie. you can not hit return
and get a second line (although the '/' character is allowed within the remedy/word
which effectively allows multiple remedies.)
• The entire Graph Menu is disabled which means you do not have access to
Design Graphs and cannot turn on Theme Rubrics in the Waffle Graph. But the default
graphs can be set to show Theme Rubrics.
•
In the Help Menu: no Concepts, Family, Application Interaction.
•
No Editing Strategies in the Strategy Menu (top two items)
•
No Saving or Editing Limits in the Remedy Limits Menu in the Remedy Graph
16
•
New - MacRep 8 - No editing rubrics in Repertory via the Contextual Menus
Other differences:
•
Removed from Preferences dialog:
•
Grade color
•
Reduce author grade
•
Elimination Combining
•
A different default set of graphs in the graph windows.
•
No contextual menus (right click) - used to be off but as of 7.6.x they are now on
•

Q. What are the changes between the ReferenceWorks 4 versions.
A: ReferenceWorks 4.2.1
This is the first significant RW update in 3 years. Mike, Bill, Declan and I focused on the
program for a couple of months to fix all of the more significant bugs that had been
reported in the last few years.
Here are changes since 4.2:
(A couple of these are in the German and French versions but not yet in the English)
- Prevent crash when opening WordFinder on Windows with no words in phrase yet.
- Changed WordFinder buttons: Removed "Similar". Changed "Loosely Similar" to
"Related Words", which displays our old synonyms.
- Removed traversal of WordNet for now unused items. Now it's fast.
- Fixed problem with mouse scroll wheel while scrolling through materia medica window
while arrow is over text and foreign translations are turned on. This would also crash if not
scrolling, if someone simply moused over a word that had many word translations in their
language.
- Moved some French resources from "Other French Resources.rsrc" to more appropriate
places, eliminating the English versions. This file was created for resources that needed to
18
be translated to French late in the release cycle. Resources that really belong in the
Family Graphs files were not moved because there is no provision for different languages
in family graphs.
- Fixed highlighting problem when typing to remedies in bar and waffle graphs.
- Some German and French translations were added for "Please plug in your protection
key".
- Fixed a problem with the top line of the rubrics window status bar being scrolled up with
the rubrics, causing each line to look underlined or crossed out.
- Fixed a problem where starting or ending a search phrase with a noise word (an article or
other ignored word) gets error "A word was expected but not found".
- Changed the name of the PDF info files: Graph is now RemedyGraph, and Families is
now FamilyGraph. This resolves a conflict between getting info for remedy graphs and
Graphites remedy.
- Fixed a visual problem with Grant's Miasms family graph. Used some resources from
MacRepertory's Family Graphs 2.
- Upgraded WordNet to 3.0.
- Fixed problem with typing multi-key characters (e.g. accented "e") into Macintosh
windows.
- When a window in ReferenceWorks is clicked from another window, the previously-top
window still gets events.
- Fixed crash when mouse wheel scrolling on a window that has a disabled scroll bar (not
enough in window to scroll).
- Fixed problem with front window sometimes not being active. Also removed the kludge
that alleviated the problem but didn't fix it completely.
- Fixed the disabled Remove Rubric contextual menu item on Windows.
Older Versions
I checked my notes (rather incomplete) about what changed between 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2.
Between 4.0 and 4.1 - support for Scholten's books so they could be added (I assume new
remedies or new book names). A few bugs fixed, better support for Vista. (May 2007)
Between 4.1 and 4.2 - "includes bug fixes, automatic updating on the internet and
enhanced stability when adding user books".
Looks like very small changes. (Aug 2007)

Complete Repertory
Q: With which versions are Complete 12 and 13 Repertories compatible?
Does it work with all MR8 (8.0 - latest 8.3.x) inc German MR?
CR 13 was tested with MR 8.2, MR 8.3 and MR German.
It works on all of these versions.
Please make sure to update your program to the latest version
Does it NOT work with pre MR8s?
This was not tested.
We do not support versions below MR 8. Users who have MR 7 might see this as a good
reason for an Upgrade. If using a new Repertory with an old version of MacRepertory, the
only problem most probably will be with newer remedies not showing, but we cannot fix
any other problem if occurring.
Q: What is the Complete Classic Rep? How is it different from Complete 2012?
A: The Complete Classic Repertory has rubrics from Kent, Boenninghausen and the
Synthetic Repertory.
The Synthetic repertory was published first in 1973 by Horst Barthel and Will Klunker.
It includes Rubrics that appeared in Kent, Knerr, Boenninghausen , Boger, Jahr, Schmidt,
Boericke, Allen, Clarke, Kunzli, and Hahnemann.
This Repertory has all new remedies, but the rubrics from new, contemporary homeopaths
are screened out.

ReferenceWorks
MM Window is blank
Problem: I make a search on RW. The References window opens. The MM window is
BLANK.
Solution: Change the size of the MM window ( drag the corner) . This was reported on
Windows, most probably does not happen on Macintosh.
20
RW does not remember Windows locations
Problem : Setting the Windows’ positions in RW is not saved
Solution: Set all windows’ positions, KEEP THE WINDOWS OPEN when you quit. When
RefWorks quits it saves the current position of each open window.

Parallels Desktop support tips
Q: I do not have internet connection on my SLS
A: Install Parallel Tools. Yes, even if they were already installed.
Q: How to share files between my two Operating systems?
A: To determine which folder will be seen in SL
Go in parallels to Configuration/options/ custom folders
Define which folders should be seen
To see them from SL, open finder /Computer / sharing (if Computer is not there , go to Mac
HD, and ask to open enclosing folder).
Restart the ML
Q: I cannot hear any sound through Parallels and SLS.
A: Install Parallel Tools.
21/26
Make sure Parallels and SLS are updated.
Q: What is the difference between VMWare Fusion and Parallels ?
VMWare Fusion works the same as Parallels, but we have done extensive testing with
Parallels and recommend it over VMWare Fusion.
Customers and Dealers have
supported that Parallels is a better choice as well.
But if the customer already has Fusion, then it is worth a try to see if our programs run
acceptably with it. If they have not yet purchased it then I would recommend Parallels
Desktop 8.
TIME VERSION

Installation issues
Spacebar
Q: The Spacebar does not work after installing MR / RW on Mavericks.
A: Open Safari / Prefernces/ Privacy
Delete your Cookies. ( „Remove all Website Data“ / „Remove Now“ )
Restart Safari.
Licence Agreement
Q: I have to agree to the Licence Agreement every time I restart my computer and open
the programs
A1: The use has his Security & Privecy ( under System Preferences ) set to „Allow apps
downloaded frm : Mac App store „. Please ask them to change it to „MacApp Store and
identified developers“
22
A2:
The
user
license
agreement
confirmation
indicator
is
stored
~/Library/Preferences/com.synergyhomeopathic.macrepertory.plist
in
and
com.synergyhomeopathic.referenceworks.plist.
Please delete these tow files and it should ask you now only once. This problem will most
probably rise only with people that had a beta version of the program.
HASP Driver
Problem: The icon for the HASP driver is not seen ( no
).
Solution: Right click on the Icon and ask to open with the Installation Program
(Standard).
MacRepertory fails to start/ Location of error log
If MacRepertory fails to start up and there is no error message on screen then you may
find some error information in a log file in the Documents folder. The file is called
“MacRepertory Error Log.txt”.
MacRepertory mentions another Config. File
Open MR, and instead of asking fort he config.
You get the following message:
The program found another config. (most probably on the desktop). Make a search on MR
8 and delete any Config which is not the new one.
Program freezes after asking for the config.
You installed the program, it asks for the License agreement, then for the Config., and then
gets stuck.
Try it again, and if no change then close all programs, and restart the computer.
23/26
Incorporate changes into the Repertory
For those who have changes to incorporate
Incorporate Rep. Changes in Mac:
Hold the Option key down (do not let go) choose Incorporate from the changes menu.
ALL file types are shown.
Choose your file
Import files from other systems
Q:The zip process cannot be completed on the original computer
A: This might happen if the user has for example many cases. Ask him/her to do it if 2-3
batches, this usually solves the problem.
Error Messages
Resource is busy
Get the Error Message: “resource is busy” after downloading MacRepertory or
ReferenceWorks and trying to open the dmg file.
Is the file on an external drive ? Try copying it to the Hard Drive
Do you have MacKeeper's Drive Pulse running? Quit and try again.
ReferenceWorks has a font problem
Problem: In the search window, clicking on “3” in the keyboard results in the number 3
without a frame around it. Tipping the space bar twice gives a comma, and no SEN as it
should. The search itself (and the text in the RC is OK.)
Solution: Restart RW and the problem disappear.
Problem attempting to open a resource portion of the file (Error -199)
Problem: The user imported a Repertory ( would be a Repertory that was renamed by him
most probably) , and gets an error when trying to open the Repertory.
Solution: The name of the Repertory is too long. Limit the name to 18 Characters, change
the name on the source OS, zip the file and re-import.
24
“Cases Import “ is empty after the import.
Problem: The folder “Cases Import “ is empty, even though the import was done properly (
zipped the folder on old system, unzipped on Mavericks and imported). The rpogram
reports no errors...
Solution: The original Cases folder was EMPTY ! The user read the instruction where we
said where the cases are, but actually he saved his cases somewhere else  . To check
where (he hopfully still has his old system running) open MR, and go to File/open
Patient’s chart.
