Eighth Grade Essentials and Agendas March 21-25, 2016 The moral focus for the month of March is Encouragement. Encouragement begins with putting others first (humility). When we build others up we give them hope and support which results in faithful friendship. The art teachers and Young 5 - 6th grade students have done beautiful work that can be made into everything from key chains, coffee mugs, magnets, phone cases and matted prints. Orders must be turned in by Wednesday, March 23. Do your Mother's Day and Father's Day shopping with Art to Remember! Tuesday, March 22 will be our School-wide ‘Read-n-Feed’. Everyone will stop what they are doing from 2:35 to 3:00 to read their favorite book and celebrate Reading Month. Students in Y-5s to 5th grade may bring a snuggly animal, pillow or blanket to get comfy with while reading. Please consider donating a simple snack to share with the class to munch on while reading. Students in Middle School may bring in their favorite hat to wear while reading. They should also bring in an individual snack if they would like to munch while reading. Reading Month Class Competition Update: In Middle School, LSU is in the lead with 9,482 miles traveled, followed by UofR with 5,893 and Georgia with 5573. In the 3-5 wing, Mrs. Broersma’s class is in the lead with 16,932 miles, Mrs. Swanlund next with 12,369 miles, and Mrs. Cornell in third with 10,098 miles. In the Y5-2 wing, Miss Still’s class has traveled 7,810 miles, next is Miss Lier with 6,081, and finally Miss den with 5,361 miles traveled! Keep up the good work, and turn those passports in! Every mile you travel helps your class or House Team win! Language Arts with Mrs. Shepardson This week students will be finishing presenting their Utopia projects as well as finishing takin Interim 3 as a class. The article of the week is due on Tuesday the 22nd when they will receive a new article that will be due Tuesday the 29th. Students should as always be reading for 30 minutes each night and completing end of book tasks during silent reading time set aside during class to ensure they get credit for reading each book they read. Students will also be given time to work on these objectives Tuesday and Wednesday while working on dream house project. On Thursday students will present their dream house projects. On Friday students will listen to and translate a song and learn to dance salsa. Homework for this week includes working on visual aid for the dream house project.
