Colloquium - ‘Literally a technical conversation’
Objective
The prime objective of the ‘CCE TECH FEST – 2015’ has been to offer a platform to the undergraduate students to share their views on the recent and emerging trends in science and
technology through participations in competitions.
Colloquium
It is the technical talk competition among the participants. Participants have to present a
specific topic on recent and emerging trends in Science and Technology within the given time
limit of 10 minutes on the selected topic; another 5 minutes for question and answer on the
topic.
Theme
Recent and emerging trends in Science & Technology related to various engineering
disciplines
Regulations for Selection of Colloquium topic
 The topic for participation can be in any field, but must come under the purview of the
above mentioned Theme.
 Participants should mail their Abstracts of the topic preferably in '.doc' or '.pdf' ' format
to [email protected]
 All entries of abstract will be scrutinized by a screening committee and the selected
entries/participants will be intimated via email.
 Selected participants have to confirm their participation and forward the detailed report
of the chosen topic of presentation to the following email ID.

 Subject title of the email should be same as that of the title of the presentation and
abstract for easy identification.
 The selected participants have to submit the report strictly as per the report outline
given below on or before 25th April 2015 as per the report guideline provided.

Colloquium Report guidelines
 First page
 Title of the Topic
 Name of the participant and their respective College/University with contact
numbers and e- mail ID.
 The subsequent pages should include the abstract, introduction, recent emerging trends
and conclusion.
 The last sheet may have a list of references – Eg:- websites, books, and journals and so
on which amply support the ideas or solutions incorporated.
 The report should not exceed 1500 words.
General Rules and Guidelines for competition



Competition is open to only undergraduate and diploma students (individuals).
Each participant is allowed to present only one topic.
The participant should have a valid student ID card of their college

Structuring Your Talk






Write a clear statement of the theme and its importance.
Must mention about the existing research or the related research (if it is a new area)
and must collect material which may relate to the topic.
Narrate the story in a logical sequence.
Stick to the key concepts.
Avoid description of specifics and also avoid unnecessary details.
Keep your sentences short, about 10-20 words each is ideal.
Preparing Your Slides
Presentation Design





Let the picture or graphics tell the story - minimize the use of text.
Don’t overload your slides with too much text or data.
FOCUS:- In general, using a few powerful slides is the aim.
Type key words in the PowerPoint Notes area listing what to say when displaying the
slide.
Number your slides and give them a title.

Prepare an agenda or Table of Contents slide. You can reuse the same slide at the end of
the presentation by changing the title to Summary.
Visual elements





A font size of 28 to 34 with a bold font is recommended for subtitles. The title default
size is 44. Use Calibri font .Content size is 20.
Use clear and simple visuals.
Use light colour background and dark colour text for the presentation slides.
Graphics should make key concept clearly.
Place your graphics in a similar location within each screen.
Backgrounds


Background should never distract from the presentation.
Using the default white background is hard on the viewer’s eyes. You can easily add a
design style or a color to the background.
Excitement



Animation effects can be interesting when used in moderation.
o Too much animation is distracting.
o Consider using animated clip art
o Consider using custom animation
The participant can insert video and audio clips into PowerPoint.
The participant can also insert hyperlinks.
Important note:
 The abstract of the topic to be presented should be submitted before 25th April 2015 to
the given e-mail ID's, indicating the name of the participant, name of college/university,
title of the project and the given points above.
 The decision of the judges shall be treated as final and binding on all.
 The organizers reserve the rights to change any or all of the above rules as they deem
fit. Any change in the rules, will be highlighted on the website and notified to the
registered participants in advance.
 The panel of judges consist of subject experts from various HEIs in Muscat, Industry
representatives and CCE staff.
