EUROPEAN OPEN GIANT PUMPKIN WEIGH OFF
October, 11th 2015 / Blühendes Barock Ludwigsburg (D)
Since 2006 the European weigh off took place in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Every year it was
a big success. Beni Meier from Switzerland achieved the new European record with his
pumpkin weighing 1054 kilograms last year. With this weight the Weigh Off record was
broken already 11 times in a row. This record is not only European record, it is even
World record and the first pumpkin ever which weighs more than one metric ton!

Other Participants from Germany, Austria, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Slovenja, Luxembourg,
France, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland took part in the competition in the last
years as well. The giant pumpkins were admired by many visitors at the exhibition.
Innumerable media representatives covered the event and spread the news all over the world.
This year the European weigh off is scheduled for 11th October 2015, again at the world’s
largest pumpkin exhibition in Ludwigsburg, Germany in the castle surroundings called
Blühendes Barock. The weigh off begins at 1:30 p.m. Ludwigsburg is close to Stuttgart
in Baden Württemberg, Southern Germany ...

... Blühendes Barock is the park surrounding the castle in Ludwigsburg which is a 300 year
old replica of Versailles near Paris. It presents a fantastic environment for the competition.

If the winning pumpkin weighs over 1.100 kilograms, the winner will receive an additional
award of 1.000 Euro. If the winning pumpkin will reach the weight of a new world record
(only for Atlantic Giant, not for Squash or others), the winner will receive an additional
award of 10.000 Euro
It is well worth a try!!! As we are the European open, we of course also welcome pumpkins
from all over the world, not only from Europe. Transport organisation Support will be offered.
The three heaviest pumpkins will have to remain at the exhibition on display for our visitors
in order to enable the event. On 8th. of November 2015, the last day of the exhibition we
will celebrate the “slaughter” of the giant pumpkins. The winners are invited to participate
and harvest the seeds themselves. You will also have the possibility to exchange with or
sell seeds to other growers or visitors. If you are unable to participate, we will harvest the
seeds for you and send them to you. If you have any questions concerning this, please

Pumpkins for the weigh off must be delivered on 11 October 2015 between 9 am and
