1 foot = 12 inches
1 yard = 3 feet or 36 inches
1 mile = 1760 yards or 5280 feet
Referents:
1 ton = 2000 pounds
1 pound = 16 ounces
Foot: elbow to wrist
Inch: knuckle to end of thumb
Yard: stride
Mile: 20 minute walk

In general to convert using unit analysis:
(given) x (conversion) ...
For the conversion, put the unit you have in the denominator and the unit
you want in the numerator. Use one for the largest unit and use the
conversion table to fill in the remaining unit. Note, the denominator and
numerator of the conversion will always be equal resulting in a quotient of
one.
If the conversion factor is in the numerator multiply, if it is in the
denominator divide.
Example: The photograph of a muskox uses a scale of 1:30.
Calculate the height of the muskox in feet.
Example: A marathon is 26.2 miles. How many steps would it take to complete a
marathon if each step is approximately 32 inches long.
Example: Calculate the perimeter using a scale of 1:35. Answer in feet.
