Literacy Art & Design African Art Narrative— Stories from another culture (Kenya) Non-chronological reports—writing reports based on what we have learnt about Kenya and our science topics. We will be making Kenyan traditional huts, necklaces and exploring Kenyan masks. Poetry—poems about animals We will explore the patterns of Kenyan textiles. Instruction writing Letter writing & Postcards We will be reading Mama Panya’s Pancakes, Meercat Mail, Handa’s Surprise & Handa’s Hen and other traditional fables and stories from Kenya. Science Animals, including humans—we will be learning about our senses, how we can group different types of animals and what we eat. Animals and their habitats— we will be learning about different habitats and how animals have adapted to them. We will also learn about food chains . Music Sensational Safari! It is also subject to change as we work through the topic. In Maths we follow the New Primary Curriculum Investigating a contrasting locality We will be learning about life in Kenya, it’s wildlife and physical geography. What can you do to help your child’s learning? Explore the internet for any information related to this topic. Read any fiction or non fiction books related to Kenya, animals and humans. Watch any documentary programmes related to our topic. Help children understand the differences between continents and countries.
