Floridians Board Meeting June 4, 2012 9:30 A.M. PGICA In attendance were Chuck Modglin, Judy Berger, Cynthia Cowdrey, Diane Lowy, Bill Schindler, Elaine Struk, Ray Grimes and Sue MacKay. Minutes th The minutes of the May 7 Board meeting were approved as submitted. Treasurer’s Report Diane stated we have a current balance of $3,821.98. Membership There are no new members. The membership remains at 203. Ray is holding 4 sets of unpaid name tags. He was asked to follow up on this. Committee Reports Food and Friends Carol Neiberline and Cynthia Cowdrey were hostesses for May. Each hostess had 8 people including themselves. The Ketts’s, Berger’s. Longs and Connolly’s will host June-September respectively. Cynthia will be gone July and August. Diane offered to cover June and July. Hostesses are still needed for August and September. The membership will be reminded that they cannot attend dinners unless they host at least once during the year. Lunch Bunch th Judy Berger will host the June 13 girls gathering. The men will gather at Gators for June and Wally’s in July. Meet and Greet We will return to Jack’s for the summer. They will offer a 2 for1 dinner. Dine Around There were 29 members at Bianca’s. Drinks were ½ price and a free dessert given. The service and food th were very good. Diane mentioned they have entertainment similar to Vivanti. The June 26 gathering will be at Jimmy’s Grill in Port Charlotte. Out and About Darlene will combine Out and About with Dine Around for June-October. A tour of Gasparilla @ Boca th Grande has been arranged for November 16 . A free tour of the grounds will start at 9:00AM with lunch to follow at the Pink Elephant. Movie Time 6 attended The Avengers, and 6 attended Dark Shadow. 11 had dinner at Carabbas. Dave and Sue Berger will take over Movie Time January, 2013. Web Site Elaine says she would like to have a member take over our Web Site. She will continue on if necessary. Old Business The membership will be reminded that they must host or they cannot attend a Food and Friends. Because the number of attendees is shrinking, hostesses may be asked to host 2 times a year. Bill and Susan Berger will be unable to set up the room for the 6/11 Red neck cook-out. Cynthia offered to go to Sam’s Club to get the burgers, brats, buns and condiments. We are estimating at least 50 attendees, which includes the Single’s Club. Chuck will do the cooking. Appetizers and desserts will be handled the same way as done for our annual April cook-out. New Business th For the July 9 Ice Cream social, Chuck received bids from Cubby’s, Working Cow and Cool Scoops. The Board approved Cool Scoops, a new business in Punta Gorda, and authorized Chuck to sign a contract with them. They will offer us Single scoops at $1.50, Sundaes at $2.00 and Double scoops at $3.00. Toppings are included. The Board asked Chuck to see if they have reduced fat/sugar-free tubs. Judy offered to get ice-cream hats for our volunteers. The August General Meeting will be our Pizza party. Linda S. will be contacting the LLI Institute inviting them speak at our September meeting. Chuck was asked to get a contract from Twin Isles for our annual Xmas party ASAP. The Singles Club will be invited to join us. If Twin Isles is not available, we will talk with St. Andrews.
