Seminar Intent to Enroll forms must be submitted to the GATE Office. Then, students may submit a School Choice application to attend a school that offers GATE programming during the application window for the coming year. SPECIAL EDUCATION TRANSFERS Students receiving Special Education services may submit a School Choice application online. There is no special priority provided. The availability of some Special Education services may vary from school to school. Students who enroll in a program should remain in the school for the school year for which they enroll. Changing schools can impact a student’s eligibility for athletics. For immediate athletic eligibility contact the district Athletic Office at (619) 725-7126. Students may return to the resident school during the first three weeks. After the first three weeks of the school year, students wishing to enroll in the resident school must file an Enrollment Options Transfer Request form, and have the agreement of the resident school principal. SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOL COURSES The district gives priority to high school students wanting a special course not offered at their neighborhood or current high school. The request is handled on a case-by-case basis. A special request to enroll in a course at another school must be submitted in writing at the same time a School Choice application is submitted online by the by the November 14 deadline. The following applies to requests for a specialized course: INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS • Available to high school students only Students living or moving outside of the San Diego Unified School District must submit a School Choice application online at www.sandiegounified.org/apply. Once a student is accepted by a school, the family must complete an interdistrict attendance permit by going through the resident school district office. These permits are allowed for School Choice/ Open Enrollment and Magnet programs only, and do not apply to VEEP. Approval of an interdistrict attendance permit means a student has a valid reason to enroll in a school in the district. However, it does not guarantee enrollment at a particular school. Students do not need to re-submit a School Choice application each year. It is important to note that some district schools cannot accommodate interdistrict students due to limited capacity. Transportation is not provided. • S tudent may attend the school only while enrolled in the course LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS The transfer request only allows the student to return to the resident school. Students who transfer from the non-resident school and then wish to return must resubmit a School Choice application, and are subject to all enrollment eligibility and criteria. TRANSPORTATION School bus transportation is limited. Please visit the Transportation website for current bus service information at www.sandiegounified.org/transportation-services. • School must have available space in the course • Requests will not be granted at magnet schools • Requests should be sent to www.sandiegounified.org/forms/ enrollment-options-contact-form STUDENTS WHO MOVE OUT OF THEIR RESIDENT SCHOOL BOUNDARY You must re-apply at www.sandiegounified.org/apply in order to continue at that school the following year. No special priority is given to students who were resident students in the past. The contents herein were developed under a grant from the Department of Education. However, those contents do not necessarily represent the policy of the Department of Education, and you should not assume endorsement by the Federal Government. Copies of this catalog are available in Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. Contact the Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options office for further information. New students at Barnard, Language Academy, and Longfellow must meet foreign language competency requirements if applying after first grade. SENIOR PRIORITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO HAVE A CHANGE OF RESIDENCE Senior priority is available only to students in good standing who move during the 11th or 12th grade school year and who continue to attend the same school, allowing them to graduate with their classmates. The student does not need to submit a School Choice application. This priority is contingent on sufficient space in the school, transportation guidelines, and the principal’s approval. If the student has moved to another district, an interdistrict attendance permit must be completed. SHARED BOUNDARIES Farb and DePortola middle schools share an attendance area. All schools serve grades 6-8. Please contact the schools or the Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options office for more information. Dana (Gr. 5 and 6) and Correia (Gr. 7 and 8) middle schools also share an attendance area. 20 sandiegounified SAN DIEG O U NIFIED S CHOO L D IS T RICT ENR O L L M E NT G U ID E 2 0 1 7 / 2 0 1 8 | sdschools | SanDiegoUnified quality schools in every neighborhood MIRA MESA COMMUNITY page 17 SCRIPPS RANCH COMMUNITY page 18 UNIVERSITY CITY COMMUNITY page 19 MADISON COMMUNITY page 16 LA JOLLA COMMUNITY page 16 MISSION BAY COMMUNITY page 17 CLAIREMONT COMMUNITY page 14 SERRA COMMUNITY page 19 KEARNY COMMUNITY page 15 HENRY COMMUNITY page 15 HOOVER COMMUNITY page 15 POINT LOMA COMMUNITY page 18 SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY page 18 CRAWFORD COMMUNITY page 14 LINCOLN COMMUNITY page 16 MORSE COMMUNITY page 17 WWW.SAN DIE G OUN IF IE D.ORG 21 SAN DIEGO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options Office 4100 Normal Street, Annex 12 San Diego, California 92103-2682 619.260.2410 NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS ENROLLMENT OPTIONS 2017/2018 GUIDE www.sandiegounified.org/enrollmentoptions Choice Applications accepted October 3—November 14, 2016 Information in this catalog is subject to change pending future Board of Education actions.
