Village of South Amherst Fall Leaves It is that time of year again, when the leaves are falling, and we are all wondering how to get rid of them. This year, we are looking at other leaf pick up options. As you know, last year we were not going to pick up leaves because the equipment just wasn't big enough to handle the job effectively. We still have that same equipment, so we decided to look at other alternatives. Republic Services also known as BFI will take up to six garbage bags of leaves on bulk pick up day, which is the first Wednesday of the month. They cannot be in brown bags for BFI to pick them up. They must be in black garbage bags and there can only be six bags. They also need to be a regular size bag, so they can pick them up. The village will pick up bags in the month of November starting November 11th & 12th weather permitting. These leaves need to be in the brown recycle leaf bags that you can purchase at a variety of stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. Our village crew will stop by to pick up the brown bags on 11/11, 11/12, 11/18, 11/19, 11/23, 11/24. The 24th will be the last day leaves are picked up. The bags need to stay as dry as possible, so please don't put them out until the dates listed. We will continue to research ways to assist you in leaf pick up. Please remember that burning leaves is prohibited by state law. If the Fire Department receives complaints about someone burning leaves, they are required to go out and put the fire out. We all need to work together. Please feel free to call us at 440-986-2222, if you have suggestions on how to efficiently and effectively help you deal with the falling leaves.
