....to sow, grow and serve in the name of Christ. Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, break up your unplowed ground for it is time to seek the Lord. On August 19, 2016 eight Greenville varsity football players walked across the field toward their local rival, the Ansonia varsity football team. It wasn’t game night, and as a matter of fact, the official season hasn’t even begun yet. These football players showed up for a very different reason. They didn’t come to meet their opponents on the line and battle for a win. The Greenville High School football players approached their rivals on the football field in order to share the life-changing message of the Gospel. Unlike the woman at the well, here in Darke County God is leading the way with the youth. They are beginning to truly understand the truth of the Gospel and its power in their lives, and they are running with it. This is not normal. But 1 it’s becoming the new normal here in Darke County, Ohio. Hello Church, It is hard to believe that Summer is almost over, and by the time I write to you again, we will be seeing the signs of fall beginning to set in. The past couple months have been a whirlwind with transition, ministry opportunities, and the grace of God. Today as I sit here and ponder all that I have been witness to this summer, I am reminded of Psalm 25:8-11 “Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant. For the sake of your name, Lord, UPCOMING forgive my iniquity, though it is great.” SERMON SERIES On August 6th, God brought together a group of sinners from literally all across our country and He instructed us to begin the initiative that we have called Revive Ohio. In just a couple weeks, we have seen God move so much. At this point, hundreds of people have accepted Christ as Savior and the revival is building. We have seen God open the door to ministry in the courthouse, ministry in city buildings, and even ministry in schools. Speaking of schools, seventeen of the Arcanum varsity football team stood up and claimed Jesus their Lord. This group of students is near to our heart and so we have made the commitment to disciple them over the next year. We don’t know exactly what it looks like yet, but we do know that we are going to throw all of our resources at this opportunity to strengthen the next generation and the future of our communities. Please pray for our staff, and the team as we learn God’s will and work together to seek it out. Serving Christ, Pastor Travis WELCOME JESSE TEAL AS OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF FAMILY LIFE On August 7, 2016, we were blessed to welcome Jesse Teal and his wife Ashley! They both were born and raised in Greensboro North Carolina and have graciously accepted our offer to be part of our church family here in Gordon, Ohio. Jesse comes to us with multiple years of not only speaking and leading worship services but also teaching and working with youth. His goal is to equip the youth for where they are and prepare them for where they are going. The only way to do this is to help them find a solid identity in Christ. 2Welcome Jesse & Ashley! News From Administrative Council GORDON UM CHURCH ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL MEETING JULY 10, 2016 Due to a conflict in scheduling, the Gordon Council Meeting for July 9 th was changed to after church on July 10th. Meeting was Pastor Travis Qualls, Jim Gilbert, Vicki Gilbert, and Janet Rhoades. Jim opened the meeting with prayer. Vicki Gilbert, finance chairperson, announced a profit of $2,400.00 was realized from our June Ice Cream Social. This makes a balance of $3,237.87 in the Ice Cream Social fund. The Finance Committee recommended transferring $2,500.00 from this fund into the Roof Fund, leaving a balance of $837.87 in the Ice Cream Social Fund which will be an adequate amount to finance purchases for next year’s social. In addition, $250.00 from the Memorial Fund will also be transferred to the Roof Fund making a zero balance in the Memorial fund. Also discussed was a change in the Pastor’s budget. The Finance Committee has reworked the pastoral budget to create additional church funds and have reapportioned Pastor’s salary and benefits package by removing conference health insurance and reallocating a portion of those funds to be used for education accounts reimbursable, and salary. The reallocation allows Pastor Travis and family to pay for their own health and disability insurance while the church uses the reworked salary package to pay other expenses in exchange. The Finance Committee moved to accept the new pastoral budget, Jim Gilbert seconded and motion carried. This will save Gordon $5,000.00 and St Matthew’s $5,000.00 a year. (See attached) Pastor Travis announced the SPPRC Team has chosen Jessie Teal as our new Director of Family Life. St Matthew’s has recently accepted this proposal as well. His anticipated start date is the 2nd or 3rd week of August. He and his wife will be residing in the Gordon Church parsonage. The next council meeting will be September 10th, 8:00 am.
