Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, Construction: OPSS 502 Weighing of Materials Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, Material: OPSS 1001 OPSS 1004 OPSS 2502 Aggregates - General Aggregates - Miscellaneous Sodium Chloride 531.05 MATERIALS 531.05.01 General Aggregate shall conform to OPSS 1001, except that the use of slag shall not be permitted. 531.05.02 Sand Sand shall conform to OPSS 1004. 531.05.03 Crushed Rock Salt Coarse and fine crushed rock salt shall conform to OPSS 2502. 531.06 EQUIPMENT The Contractor shall supply and maintain in good working order all such excavating, screening, loading, and hauling equipment as required to complete the work. 531.07 CONSTRUCTION Excavation of sand or gravel shall conform to OPSS 1001. 531.07.01 General The work shall consist of supplying all labour and equipment required to stockpile treated sand by mixing salt with sand, and for treating and restockpiling sand from the previous year's operations. 531.07.02 Mixing of Salt and Sand Coarse or fine crushed rock salt shall be mixed thoroughly with screened sand in the proportions directed by the Authority, to provide a homogeneous mixture. Sand left over from previous year's operation shall be treated in a similar manner. Page 2 Rev. Date: 12/1990 OPSS 531 531.07.03 Stockpiling Stockpiles shall be built to permit the placing of material without compaction and to ensure the proper mixing of materials. Stockpiles shall be coned to avoid the ponding of water and to present the minimum exposed surface area. Spillage shall be picked up and returned to the stockpile as soon as practicable. The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions to avoid damage to paved surfaces. 531.07.04 Weighing of Materials The provisions of OPSS 502 shall apply except that scales may be located anywhere providing there is no loss or waste of material between the scale and the final delivery point. If there is evidence of loss or waste of material, the Authority may order the scale to be relocated conforming to OPSS 502. 531.07.05 Volume of Materials The capacity of each truck box will be predetermined by its dimensions. Loadings of each truck shall be kept to not less than the predetermined capacity. The Contractor will not be required to load trucks in excess of this capacity to allow for bulking, and no deduction will be made for any settlement of the load during transportation, provided that such settlement is not caused by spillage or leakage. Each truck shall bear, as an identification symbol, either a letter of the alphabet or a Roman numeral, followed by the predetermined capacity of the truck. Symbols and capacities shall be of such a size as to be easily read by the checker. 531.09 MEASUREMENT FOR PAYMENT 531.09.01 Treat and Stockpile Sand Measurement of the sand will be made as delivered to the stockpile site either by volume based on truck loads conforming to sub-section 531.07.04 or by mass conforming to sub-section 531.07.05. Load tickets will be issued conforming to the Authority's current practice for both mass or volume measurements. 531.09.02 Treat and Restockpile Sand from the Previous Year's Operations When quantities of sand remaining from the previous year are shown in the contract documents, they are to be considered as approximate only. 531.10 BASIS OF PAYMENT 531.10.01 Treat and Stockpile Sand - Item Treat and Restockpile Sand from the Previous Year's Operations - Item Payment at the contract price for the above item(s) shall be full compensation for all labour and equipment required to do the work.
