is in bloom. It presents an appearance of purity, like an immaculate expanse
of light, new-fallen snow …
We are excited to begin the year 2015 with this bi-monthly Fairtrade Cotton news.
This issue outlines activities around Fairtrade Cotton during November-December
2014.

Fairtrade cotton will be produced by 23 Producer Organizations
in 8 countries, viz. India and Kyrgyzstan in Asia; Benin, Burkina
Faso, Egypt, Mali, Senegal and Uganda in Africa
•
A total production of 22000 MT Fairtrade Lint is expected in the
current harvest, around 57% of which will be certified for
Organic too. Asia will account for 15000 MT Lint while Africa’s
contribution will be 7000 MT Lint.

Max Havelaar France organized an
event in Paris on 25th Nov 2014 and
linked cotton supply chain actors.
India’s Largest T-Shirt from
Fairtrade & Organic Cotton
Fairtrade India celebrated Fairtrade
Weekend during 21-23 Nov 2014 in
Bangalore and unveiled India’s
largest T-Shirt.
Fairtrade Africa Focuses on
Cotton Quality
Fairtrade Africa organized cotton
producers’ orientation on cotton
quality aspects in Senegal.
“Speed Dating Cotton” has been a very successful event in
promoting Fairtrade cotton to prospective brands and suppliers in
France. More than 30 existing partners and prospects including La
Poste, COLAS, The City of Paris, The Ministry of National
Defense, L’Oreal, FRONTENAC, the Paris Public Transport
Operator participated in the event.

Fairtrade Africa organized an
orientation of Fairtrade cotton
producers from Senegal on quality
aspects of cotton. Producers learnt the
best practices from cotton planting to
harvest to boost quality cotton
production from the region.
