The 2017 Archbishops Appeal—Sent By The Spirit
The 2017 Archbishop’s Appeal Campaign has begun. Our parish
Appeal goal is $5,323. We are almost ¾ in meeting our goal

of Founning
but participation is low; only 18 families are participating.
Your gift to the Appeal will provide housing and basic necessities for the homeless, education and spiritual formation for
seminarians and deacons, and evangelization and education
initiatives for youth, young adults, and families in our archdiocese. Your gift to the Appeal can be made by filling out the
pledge card sent to your home or here at the parish. Once completed, place your Appeal pledge card in the offertory during
Mass. Gifts can also be made online at www.archsa.org/
archbishops-appeal or over the phone with the Appeal Office at 210-734-1604.
Thank you for your generosity.
Please help us reach our goal of 100% parish participation.

LETTER FROM THE PASTOR
Mission Conoppoion Through Thp Ypmrs...
Mission Concepcion appears very much as it did
over two centuries ago. It stands proudly as the
oldest unrestored stone church in America. It took
about 15 years to build the church. In its heyday,
colorful geometric designs covered its surface, but
the patterns have long since faded or been worn

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
Don’t eat the fruit of a beautiful tree? Go out into the desert without provisions? Are you kidding
me? Lent is here! These readings remind you of the boundaries between God and human beings.
The words may conjure up feelings of sin, temptation, and failure, but you learn of mercy as well and
enter into the mystery of redemption.
Did you know? Abstaining and Fasting during Lent
Abstaining applies to all Catholics 14 and older and means that they must not eat meat on Ash Wednesday
and on all Fridays of lent. (Meat is any beef, pork, chicken or fowl.) Fasting applies to all Catholics ages 18-59
and means that they must eat only one full meal on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, which means no
snacks between meals. However, two smaller meals, such as breakfast and lunch, can be eaten in addition
to the one full meal (supper) as long as they don’t equal the one full meal combined.
40 CANS FOR LENT
Please help the less fortunate in our area by bringing each week 7 cans of non-perishable food items for the
40 Cans for Lent Project sponsored by Catholic Charities. Each week a Container will be made available here
in the church for you to bring your donated food items.
Rice Bowl - For Lent for Life
Just $1.00 a day during Lent ($40 total) can provide a family with food for
one month. For more information please visit crsricebowl.org. If you would
like to turn in your Lenten gifts online visit crsricebowl.org/give.
Thank you for your generosity.
