Lecture Content:
Professor Greenberg will deliver a two
hour talk that will introduce an APA-published
DVD and book programme designed to illustrate
differences and similarities between EmotionFocused,
Psychodynamic
and
Cognitive
Behavioural Approaches. The book, Exploring
Three Approaches to Psychotherapy (Greenberg,
McWilliams and Wenzel, 2013), offers an in-depth
analysis of the therapeutic processes that are
fundamental to the three orientations, along with
an explication of the theories and techniques of the
models and their application as shown in the APA
DVDs Three Approaches to Psychotherapy With a
Female Client and Three Approaches to
Psychotherapy with A Male Client.
Professor Greenberg will present excerpts
from the 2011 APA DVD Three Approaches to
Psychotherapy with a Female Client – The Next
Generation. The DVD was inspired by the original
Three Approaches to Psychotherapy video that
featured three therapists (Carl Rogers, Fritz Perls
and Albert Ellis) working with a client named
“Gloria”. The current DVD presents Judith Beck
(cognitive
therapy),
Nancy
McWilliams
(psychodynamic therapy) and Professor Greenberg
(emotion-focused therapy) demonstrating their
respective approaches to psychotherapy with the
same client. In this lecture, Professor Greenberg
will present a comparison of how the different
therapeutic approaches work with emotion through
an analysis of the presented DVD-excerpts.
