Come for dinner and stay for the Blackwood Quartet. ne of the best memories I have of being a child is attending Sunday school. There was something special about the time that I shared with friends and teachers that enhanced my understanding of God in ways that I could never have imagined without their support. Through my time in religious education, I learned how to think richer, search deeper, and communicate with God in a more profound way. Sunday school teachers were my guides, the light that brightened my path. My teachers instructed me regarding the importance of valuing my fellow human beings and respecting each other as children of the Most-High God. While I no longer see those who taught me about God, they are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. I still stand amazed at their wisdom and give thanks for their service. To teach is to be called by God for special service. There is a tremendous responsibility charged to those who share the Gospel with our younger church members. This attention to God's calling is the beginning of shaping little hearts and minds in the knowledge that they are beloved children of God. The work is crucial, vital to the continuation of our faith. Next Sunday, we will celebrate our teachers. We will give thanks to them and their leadership. We will ask blessings for our seniors, and those who are starting out on new adventures and we will also pray a blessing over our backpacks. With the starting of a new school year, let us call to mind the One who sustains us and strengthen us. Grace and Peace, Pastor Joe August Anniversaries and Birthdays Prayer Corner August 21, 2016 E.M. Bounds made a statement to the effect that when God’s house on earth is filled with prayer, God’s house in heaven gets busy. H ave you ever thought of what your prayers cause in heaven? Are angels dispatched as we pray? Is provision set in motion when we intercede? Are circumstances manipulated when we pray for a lost son or daughter? Does Satan cringe under the blows of our prayers? Do our prayers live forever before God? When we have forgotten, does God still remember? What happened in heaven when D.L. Moody prayed? Were demonic forces not put to flight? Did not whole cities experience the power of God? A sincere prayer is more powerful than the whole of the United Nations. Nothing significant has ever been affected for the Kingdom of God unless prayer was in the vanguard. No time will be better spent today than the time you spend in prayer. Is heaven busy on your account this morning? Are angels rising to put the adversary to flight? Is the curtain of gloom parting as you call on the incomparable name of Jesus? We must never forget that what we see on earth can be, and will be, marked by our prayers – or their absence.
