OSHA’S REVISED HAZARD COMMUNICATION STANDARD COURSE
Description: OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard is currently the Second most frequently cited
OSHA Violation. OSHA required employers to train employees on the New Labels Elements and Safety Data
Sheets (SDS) format to facilitate recognition and understanding by December 1, 2013. The purpose of this
course is to educate participants about OSHA’s Revised Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) and how it
has been changed to align with the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling
of Chemicals (GHS). Two significant changes contained in the revised standard require the use of new labeling
elements and a standardized format for Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), formerly known as, Material Safety Data
Sheets (MSDSs). The GHS is a universal system in assuring that all chemical products that are shipped around
the world have a common system for notification of hazards to the end user. This course includes training on the
New GHS Labeling Guidelines and additional required information; New GHS Symbols (Pictograms) which relay
all applicable health, physical and environmental hazards; New GHS Signal Words which simplify employee
understanding and emphasize chemical hazards and severity; and HCS 2012/GHS Hazard Statements that apply
to each hazard class. Upon successful course completion, each participant will receive a Builders’ Association
Photo ID Data Card.

Description: This course focuses on the top four hazards in the construction industry (falls, electrocutions,
struck-bys and caught-ins. Construction workers make up approximately 6% of the country’s workforce, but
account for more than 20% of all job related fatalities each year. Construction is one of the most hazardous
industries in America; each year a substantial number of construction workers lives and countless others are
injured by these four hazards. Participants will be introduced to accident prevention techniques and hazard
recognition to improve their awareness about the focus four hazards and ways to abate these hazards. Upon

OSHA CONFINED SPACE ENTRY FOR CONSTRUCTION COURSE
Description: OSHA’s final standard for construction work in confined spaces took effect on August 3, 2015.
The new standard, Subpart AA of 29 CFR 1926, sets requirements for practices and procedures to protect
employees engaged in construction activities at a worksite with one or more confined spaces. However, the
standard does not apply to construction work regulated elsewhere in Part 1926 for excavations, underground
construction, and diving operations. This course is designed to increase the knowledge of personnel that work
in or around Confined Spaces and cover the key issues surrounding the new confined spaces rule, including;
key differences between old and new rules, why the standard is needed, who the standard applies to, the
difference between permit-required confined spaces (PRCS) and non-permit-required confined spaces
(NPRCS), general industry vs. construction standards, Requiring employers to provide training in a language
and vocabulary that the employee understands, OSHA’s training requirements. Upon successful course
completion, each participant will receive a Builders’ Association Photo ID Data Card.

Construction versus General Industry:
The new standard provides construction
employees with protections similar to those
general industry employees have had for more
than two decades, but with some differences
tailored to the construction industry.
It should be noted that if a construction employer
has been following the general industry
standard, 29 CFR 1910.146, these employers
will discover several differences between that
and the new Subpart AA of 29 CFR 1926.
These new requirements will be covered in this
course.

OSHA 8-HOUR BASIC RIGGING & SIGNAL PERSON COURSE
Description: This eight-hour course covers both rigging and signal person training requirements as set forth in the
new OSHA Construction Crane Standard, Subpart CC, which became effective November 8, 2010. This course will
cover the elements of a rigging plan to ensure safe work during hoisting activities. It will also cover all types of
rigging and materials, including slings and chains, and types of hardware used, and how to properly inspect them for
defects and when to remove from service, manufacturers recommendations for load ratings, and emphasize the
importance for locating the center of gravity for all loads and calculating the load angle of the rigging from horizontal
to ensure the proper rigging is used. The signal person portion of this course will ensure each participant has the
knowledge of signals to be qualified by demonstrating an understanding of the different types used for crane
activities including new, voice or audible, radio or electronic, or hand signals. All participants will receive a copy of
standard hand signals, which must be posted in the crane or near the work areas. They will perform a practical
exercise of hand signals, and complete a written learning exercise to ensure comprehension of the course materials
and the OSHA requirements for signaling. Upon successful course completion each participant will receive a
Builders’ Association Photo ID Data Card.
