SS8H5 The student will explain significant factors that
affected the development of Georgia as part of the
growth of the United States between 1789 and 1840. a.
Explain the establishment of the University of Georgia,
Louisville, and the spread of Baptist and Methodist
churches.

SS8H6 The student will analyze the impact of the Civil
War and Reconstruction on Georgia.

SS8H2 The student will analyze the colonial period of
Georgia's history. a. Explain the importance of James
Oglethorpe, the Charter of 1732, reasons for settlement
(charity, economics, and defense), Tomochichi, Mary
Musgrove, and the city of Savannah.






SS8G1 The student will describe Georgia
with regard to physical features and
location.
c. Locate and evaluate the importance of
key physical features on the development of
Georgia; include the Fall Line, Okefenokee
Swamp, Appalachian Mountains,
Chattahoochee and Savannah Rivers, and
barrier islands.

Tour Coordinator–
-Pre-tour and On-tour arrangements before and
during the trip
-Work closely with us to coordinate all activities
-Interacts with hotel on group’s behalf
-Arranges meals and transportation
-Responsible for the proactive execution of the tour
from the time we arrive until the time we depart
-Coordinates accommodations at hotels (Currently,
we are trying to secure a female and male hotel.)
Night Security-One security guard from 11:00pm to 5:30am
-Background checks and drug testing have been completed by Security
Management of South Carolina
-The security guard will not enter into student rooms



There will be four
students to a room.
Students may choose
their own roommates.
Teachers will approve the
roommates and make any
changes necessary.
Students will remain with
their roommates during
the entire trip, including
on the buses.

Roommate selection will
take place in February.
Students will be assigned to a teacher chaperone.
This will be their group for the entire trip, including
seating on the buses and in the hotel rooms.
 There will be one teacher chaperone per 10-12
students.
 No student will be allowed to leave his/her assigned
group. Students will be accompanied to each venue
with their assigned teacher chaperone.
 If you are interested in being a chaperone, you will
have to enter your name into the lottery (Chaperone
lottery information will be sent home in January.)






School appropriate clothing is to be worn during the
entire trip, including on the buses.
A t-shirt will be designed for the trip in a bright color.
The t-shirt is an additional security measure to quickly
identify our SMS students. Information for purchasing
the t-shirts will be sent home when it is available.
Students are required to wear a royal blue polo on
Monday, April 27, 2015 and the designated 8th grade tshirt on Tuesday, April 28, 2015.
Students should wear comfortable shoes (no flip
flops) while on the trip.
Bring a light jacket/sweatshirt as well as rain poncho.

Any student who receives OSS (Out of School
Suspension) starting from November 19, 2014
until April 24, 2015 will become ineligible for the
trip to Savannah, GA.

If a student receives 2 or more referrals that
result in ISS starting from November 19, 2014
until April 24, 2015, he or she will become
ineligible for the trip to Savannah, GA.

Administration reserves the right to make the
final decision on the eligibility of any student.

It is the students responsibility to keep up
with all personal belongings (i.e., cell
phones, money, ipods and etc.)

EVERYTHING except Souvenirs and
required t-shirt!

For students who are staying at SMS on April
27 and 28, there will be two days of activities
planned for the students aligned to the same
standards as the Savannah, GA trip.
